Biography

Dr Paul Leavis received his Ph.D. from Tufts Graduate School for studies on the physical chemistry of fibrinogen. He then completed a post-doc at Boston Biomedical Research Institute studying skeletal muscle regulatory proteins and later developed peptides that modified leptin signaling in implantation of embryos. Dr Leavis began teaching physiology at TUSM and TUSDM in the early 1970s. He became the Course Director of Physiology at TUSDM in 1990 and has been director of other courses as well. In 2015, he led a project to redesign the basic science curriculum at TUSDM and is the Director of Basic Science Integration. As a full time educator, Dr Leavis currently teaches in the MBS and PA courses in the Medical School, in multiple basic science courses in the Dental School and a physiology course in the Friedman School of Nutrition.
