The primary responsibility of the Department of Prosthodontics lies in the education and training of predoctoral and postdoctoral students in the restorative aspects of bringing a damaged dentition back to biologic health, function, esthetics and comfort. This is accomplished by teaching and practicing the clinical techniques of modern restorative dentistry and prosthodontics including implant dentistry on the basis of current evidence in the related sciences. The department integrates predoctoral and postgraduate prosthodontics and our related programs, Advanced Education in Esthetic and Operative DentistryAdvanced Dental Technology and Research, and Advanced Digital Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry Fellowship.

Predoctoral Prosthodontics Program

Program Director:  Ali Muftu

The Predoctoral Prosthodontics is responsible for educating predoctoral students to be competent in the treatment and management of patients who require comprehensive diagnoses, treatment plans and sequences of treatment in general prosthodontic therapy commonly found in general dental practices.

Postgraduate Prosthodontics Program

(Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics)

Program Director: Konstantinos Vazouras

The Advanced Specialty Education Program in Prosthodontics is designed to provide residents with the knowledge and skills to meet the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards for certification in this specialty. Its three-year curriculum is based on the biomedical and clinical sciences required to achieve the goals and objectives of the program. Extensive didactic, clinical and laboratory phases of training are offered in conventional prosthodontics, esthetic, implant and digital dentistry. An additional emphasis is also placed on diagnosis, treatment planning as well as comprehensive care for advanced patients using an evidence-base, multidisciplinary approach. The program believes that board certification is a critical step in professional growth and emphasizes a mindset towards achievement of this goal.

Advanced Education in Esthetic and Operative Dentistry (AEEOD) Program

Program Director: Aikaterini Papathanasiou

The Advanced Education in Esthetic and Operative Dentistry (AEEOD) Certificate Program allows residents to have direct interaction with most dental specialties, including Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Endodontics and Orthodontics. Therefore, it contributes in providing a multidisciplinary approach in the diagnosis and management of patients’ esthetics and functional needs. During its two year clinical curriculum, residents are trained to provide comprehensive dental care, utilizing the most appropriate technologies available to dental professionals. Residents’ achievements include simple to more extensive smile reconstruction including teeth whitening, direct composite restorations, porcelain laminate veneers, all-ceramic and porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns, computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) restorations, and implant-supported crowns. The program exposes residents to all specialty phases of dentistry and medicine as they apply to esthetics.

Advanced Dental Technology (ADT) and Research Program

Program Director: Konstantinos Vazouras

The Advanced Dental Technology (ADT) and Research Program provides an advanced level of education in dental technology and related research to dental technicians who desire higher education in areas such as advanced dental ceramics, implantology and CAD/CAM technology. The program allows dental technicians to attend lectures and seminars offered by the Postgraduate Prosthodontics program, gain a mutual understanding of comprehensive treatment process and improve communication with dentists.

Advanced Digital Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry (ADPI) Fellowship Program

Program Director: Konstantinos Vazouras

The Advanced Digital Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry (ADPI) Fellowship Program is designed to allow the enrolled fellow(s) in an advanced level of training in digital prosthodontics and implant dentistry (including surgical placement) with didactic, clinical, laboratory and scholarly components. The one year full time program is unique as it will render the fellow(s) more advanced training in implant dentistry (including surgical placement) and digital dentistry using various technology.
