Department of Periodontology
Welcome from the Chair
As Chair of the Department of Periodontology at TUSDM, I’m thrilled to introduce our dynamic and exceptional community. Our mission is to empower the next generation of dentists and periodontists, advance research, and provide exceptional patient care. We are committed to excellence in education, research, and patient care, leading the way in periodontology and implantology innovations. Our dedicated faculty and residents offer cutting-edge treatments, from regenerating bone support and restoring smiles with plastic surgery to expertly placing dental implants.
Our program attracts top dentists from around the world, eager to learn the latest techniques in periodontal and dental implant therapy. Tufts Dental's Periodontology is more than just a department; it's a community of dedication and excellence. We constantly push the boundaries of healthcare, aiming to equip our students and residents with the knowledge, skills, and compassion needed to make a real difference in our patients' lives.
We believe in innovative solutions and a culture of empathy, always recognizing the person behind every dental condition. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice because our patients deserve nothing less. I encourage you to engage with our department, share your insights, collaborate with your colleagues, and be the change you wish to see in healthcare. Together, we are building a brighter, healthier future.
Best regards, Natalie Jeong, DMD, MA
Postdoctoral Program
Program Director: Dr. Lorenzo Mordini
The advanced education program in periodontics is designed to provide dentists with the knowledge and skills to meet the Commission on Dental Accreditation standards for certification in this specialty. Its curriculum is based on the biomedical and clinical sciences required to achieve the goals and objectives of the program. Moreover, the department believes that board certification is a critical step in professional growth and emphasizes a mindset towards achievement of this goal.
Predoctoral Program
Program Director: Dr. Livia Valverde
The predoctoral periodontal program is integrated into the school’s DMD curriculum. The objective of the program is to ensure that students are capable of diagnosing and treating periodontal disease. Students are also prepared to work closely with postdoctoral periodontology residents when the severity of the case suggests dual management.
