The Dr. Erling Johansen, D49 Endowed Professorship in Dental Research
The first endowed professorship in TUSDM’s history, this professorship was established in 1998 by the bequest of Dr. Edward Becker, D34, H94 in honor of his friend, Erling Johansen, DMD, PhD, D49, the school’s longest-serving dean. This professorship is conferred upon a leader in the field.
Athena S. Papas, DMD, PhD, FACD is the Dr. Erling Johansen, D49 Endowed Professor in Dental Research.
The Delta Dental of Massachusetts Professorship in Public Health and Community Service
Established in 2006 by the Delta Dental Plan of Massachusetts, this professorship is conferred upon a leader in the field with interests in expanding community outreach and oral healthcare service to underserved populations in Massachusetts.
Athanasios Zavras, DG93 is the Delta Dental of Massachusetts Professor in Public Health and Community Service.

The Winkler Professorship of Endodontics
This professorship was established in 2013 by the bequest of the late Thomas F. Winkler III, DMD, A62, D66, D10P, DG12P. Dr. Winkler was an endodontist, long-time faculty member, and served as a Trustee of Tufts University and a Chair of the TUSDM Board of Advisors. A role model to everyone, Dr. Winkler was admired for his thoughtfulness, integrity, and dedication to his patients, colleagues, and students.
Robert B. Amato, DMD is the Winkler Professor of Endodontics.
