Financial Aid Programs and Cost of Attendance for Post-Graduate Students
Application Information and Forms
Postgraduate students who are US Citizens or Permanent Resident and who are enrolled in accredited post-graduate programs may apply for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan, Federal Direct Grad PLUS and private education loans to cover all or part of their yearly cost of education. International students may apply for private education loan which will usually require the student to provide a qualified US Citizen or Permanent Resident acting as co-borrower.
Students applying for Federal Direct Loans, including Grad PLUS, must complete the financial aid application requirements as outlined in the Post-Graduate Financial Aid Manual and summarized on the Post-Graduate Financial Aid Application Checklist. Please note that completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to be considered for these programs. Post-Graduate students should not include parent information when completing a FAFSA. The financial aid application deadline for Post-Graduate students is April 1st each year. Educational costs for Post-Graduate Certificate Programs are included in the tables below. Please note that additional tuition charges apply to joint certificate programs with Master of Science.
Cost of Attendance
A student’s cost of education is made up of both billed costs (tuition and fees) and indirect costs (such as living expenses, books and course materials, equipment and supplies). Students may receive financial aid up to (but not exceeding) their total cost of education each academic year.
The Financial Aid Office contacts each post-graduate department annually to request an itemized list of required materials, equipment and travel which the student is expected to incur while in attendance of their education program. The costs provided by the departments are included as indirect costs for which a student may receive financial aid. Costs related to recommended off-site travel can’t be covered with financial aid. Students who may receive support from their governments may have additional restrictions for travel imposed by their government.
The living expense allowance portion of a student’s cost of education is determined based on a survey of currently enrolled students and the US Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics cost of living averages for the Boston metropolitan area. Currently, the living expense allowance for students living off-campus is $3,650 per month multiplied by the length of the student’s academic year. For post-graduate students, the length of the academic year is 12 months. Students who are living with their parents have a monthly living expense allowance of $2,100 per month. Read more information about living expense budgets.
The student’s total annual cost of attendance is listed below by program. Both direct and indirect costs are considered estimated and are subject to change. Please note that the off-campus living expense budgets are included along with other indirect costs. A more detailed breakdown of the components is available in the Student Loan Handbook. Read more information on housing options in the Boston area.
