Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) has received a generous donation to create endowment funding from Altus Dental and its sister company, Chewsi Dental. This endowment creates a permanent fund available to students, including those from underrepresented communities, who will be the next generation of dental and oral health professionals.

Together, the two companies have established The Altus Dental and Chewsi Scholarship to benefit Massachusetts and/or Rhode Island residents in TUSDM’s pre-doctoral DMD program.

“This scholarship support from Altus Dental and Chewsi is an investment in the future of our students, particularly those from underrepresented communities,” said Nadeem Karimbux, dean of TUSDM. “We are grateful to contribute to efforts to create a more diverse and inclusive dental workforce, which will benefit the health of the people of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.”

Joe Perroni, president and CEO of Altus Dental, said that increasing access to oral healthcare is a priority for both companies.

“We’re proud to invest in developing new dental professionals, particularly from diverse backgrounds,” Perroni said. “Developing the next generation of dental professionals is an important step in creating more access to care.”

With a focus on improving access to oral health care and supporting underrepresented students, this scholarship will enable a diverse group of qualified students with financial need to receive the excellent clinical training and research focused education for which TUSDM is known.
