In-Network Dental Insurance

It is your responsibility to know your dental insurance benefits. Insurances accepted and procedures covered may vary by provider and individual. You will be responsible for any remaining balances after we bill your insurance, and we will send a statement showing the balance.

All Clinics:*

*Except Oral Medicine and the Craniofacial Pain Center that bill medical insurance. See the "Medical Insurance" section below.

Comprehensive Care Clinic Only:

Out-of-Network Insurance

If you have a different insurance plan than those listed, you can still receive services at TUSDM. You must pay in full at the time of the appointment, and then file for reimbursement from your insurance company. We will provide you with a standard dental claim form, listing the treatments that were provided and the payment received. The patient then may submit the dental claim form to her/his insurance company. The patient will then work directly with her/his insurance company to receive reimbursement as allowed under the patient’s insurance coverage.

Medical Insurance

Most medical insurance plans do not cover dental care, however, the following clinics do bill medical insurance. Please contact the clinic directly for more details about medical insurance billing.

  • How much cheaper is TUSDM than a private dentist?

Our Teaching Clinic fees are as much as 50 percent less than many private practices in the Boston area, depending on the treatment type and clinic. Our lowest fees are found in our Comprehensive Care Clinic.

Our Faculty Practice, which is not a teaching clinic, provides care at rates comparable to private practices.

Does TUSDM provide assistance for low-income patients?

Since we are a teaching facility, and our fees are as much as 50 percent less than a private practice, we cannot provide free care or low-income assistance. We can offer payment plans through LendingClub.

Why do I have to pay my co-payment before my insurance is billed or before I receive a billing statement?

Our policy is that all patients are required to pay for treatment at the time of your appointment. This includes any co-payments and/or deductibles for insurance patients. In the event of an overpayment, we will credit your account or return your payment.

How long does it take to process a refund?

Refunds are normally processed within three to four weeks.

What if I have dental insurance not accepted at TUSDM?

Patients with dental insurance plans that are not accepted at TUSDM are classified as “self-pay” patients. Upon completion of each dental procedure, and after you have made payment in full, we will provide you a claim form which you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

Do you have a price list for dental services?

Our fees are not posted because all of our treatment plans are individualized. All fees will be explained to you before treatment.
