Biography

Mark Lerman is the Chair of and Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences, as well as the Division Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He divides his time between teaching, seeing patients with oral mucosal disease, practicing diagnostic histopathology in and serving as Laboratory Director of Tufts Oral Pathology Services, the school's biopsy service, and participating in other scholarly activities.

Dr. Lerman earned both his B.A. in history and D.M.D. from Tufts University. After completing a general practice residency in dentistry at Harvard University and Brigham and Women's Hospital, he trained in oral and maxillofacial pathology at New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens in New York City. He was on the faculty at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine for eight years, where he was appointed as an Assistant Clinical Professor, before returning to his alma mater in 2014. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, and he has authored and co-authored multiple articles in the peer-reviewed oral pathology literature.
