Biography
Michael Thompson, M.A., Ph.D., is the assistant dean for academic affairs, and professor of periodontology at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Thompson received his Ph.D. from Emory University, and completed postdoctoral work at the University of Edinburgh and Tufts University School of Medicine. He was a faculty member in the Dept. of Pharmacology from 1987-97, before joining Tufts University School of Dental Medicine full time in 1997. Since that time, Dr. Thompson has served as the course director for both the undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacology courses. He has received awards for excellence in teaching as well as the Provost's Award for Excellence in Teaching and Service. He has lectured at Yankee Dental Congress as well as various Boston area Dental Societies, taught pharmacology at Forsyth School for Dental Hygiene, and has offered CE courses at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine on updates in pharmacology. He is the author of numerous publications on stress, pain response, and endogenous opioids.
