Clinical Observership Program
At TUSDM, we offer a Clinical Observership program. This program is designed specifically for dentists interested in furthering their knowledge of dentistry. The objective of the program is for participants to become familiar with clinical skills and didactic education. The program comprises didactic seminars and clinical observation. The didactic seminars follow the schedule of the post-doctoral TUSDM Residents. When not in attendance of didactic lectures, participants will partake in clinical observation at the department of your interest.

Requirements for Application
***Please note the application timeline must be at least three months prior to the program start date. ***
***For international applicants, please note the application timeline must be at least four months prior to the program start date.***
- Have a BDS/DDS/DMD degree, or its equivalent, from a domestic or international dental school.
- Submission of a completed application form. Include your curriculum vitae and official WES report
- Payment of a non-refundable application fee of $100 U.S with the link provided at the end of this application
- Minimum overall test score of 4 in the new score scale, equivalent to total of 80 achieved on the internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
- A government photo ID
- Proof of acceptable medical insurance for the duration of the program. For international applicants, international coverage verification is required.
- Submit and be approved for Immunization requirements
- Complete and pass the background check from Certiphi Screening
Tuition
Applicants have an opportunity to choose the length of preceptorship as below:
- 8 weeks ($8,000)
- 7 weeks ($7,000)
- 6 weeks ($6,000)
- 5 weeks ($5,000)
- 4 weeks ($4,000)
- 3 weeks ($3,000)
- 2 weeks ($2,000)
* Orofacial Pain Clinical Observership program only receives observers for up to 2 weeks
Application Process
The application process for this program involves submitting all required documentation and information for the program director and admissions personnel to assess eligibility. An incomplete application will not be reviewed. Please email your TOEFL/ IELTS scores directly from the exam platform to Tufts. To have your scores sent to us, use institution code 3902 and department code 38 on the TOEFL registration form.
- An interview with the program director will be scheduled to finalize details and determine if the program aligns with the candidate’s expectations.
- Complete the Immunization form: Vaccination form signed by your primary care doctor for: MMR, Tuberculosis Screening, Tdap, Varicella/Chickenpox, Hepatitis B, Influenza, and COVID-19.
- If accepted, an admissions letter will be provided along with payment instructions.
- Step for international applicants: At this stage, a member from the Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs will contact you to initiate the Visa process. For short-term educational experiences like this, a J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa is required. This visa is intended for individuals participating in approved educational and cultural exchange programs. To begin the process, we will connect the candidate with our International Center Office, which will issue the DS-2019 form, a required document for your J-1 visa application.
- Complete the visitor package documentation a week prior to starting your Clinical Observership program, which includes:
- TUSDM Policy on Visitor and Non-Workforce Members
- Confidentiality and Information Security Agreement Signature Page
- Certification of Insurance for Visitors and Exchange Students
- Emergency Contact Information Form
- Learning Management System (LMS) modules: safety, infection control, OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Training, HIPAA, security awareness, and restricted intelligence
- Proof of acceptable medical insurance for the duration of the program.
