At Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, we want you to have all the information you need to be able to make an informed decision about the path of your dental education. Beyond tuition and fees, we provide clear and itemized estimates of other costs and expenses you are likely to face depending on the postgraduate program that interests you. Please contact the department's program director (or program) with any questions or for additional information you may be seeking.

Cost of Attendance

A student’s cost of education is made up of both billed costs (tuition and fees) and indirect costs (such as living expenses, books and course materials, equipment and supplies). Students may receive financial aid up to (but not exceeding) their total cost of education each academic year.

The Financial Aid Office contacts each post-graduate department annually to request an itemized list of required materials, equipment and travel which the student is expected to incur while in attendance of their education program. The costs provided by the departments are included as indirect costs for which a student may receive financial aid. Costs related to recommended off-site travel can’t be covered with financial aid. Students who may receive support from their governments may have additional restrictions for travel imposed by their government.

The living expense allowance portion of a student’s cost of education is determined based on a survey of currently enrolled students and the US Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics cost of living averages for the Boston metropolitan area. Currently, the living expense allowance for students living off-campus is $3,650 per month multiplied by the length of the student’s academic year. For post-graduate students, the length of the academic year is 12 months. Students who are living with their parents have a monthly living expense allowance of $2,100 per month.

The student’s total annual cost of attendance is listed below by program. Both direct and indirect costs are considered estimated and are subject to change. Please note that the off-campus living expense budgets are included along with other indirect costs. A more detailed breakdown of the components is available in the Student Loan Handbook. Read more information on housing options in the Boston area.

Please also note that additional tuition charges apply to joint certificate programs with Master of Science or Doctor of Science.
