The primary responsibility of the Department of Prosthodontics is to educate and train predoctoral and postdoctoral students in the restorative aspects of bringing a damaged dentition back to biologic health, function, esthetics, and comfort. This is accomplished by teaching and practicing the clinical techniques of modern restorative dentistry and prosthodontics, including implant dentistry, based on current evidence in the related sciences.

Advanced Education in Prosthodontics
The Advanced Education in Prosthodontics program is designed to provide residents with the knowledge and skills to meet the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards for certification in this specialty. Our three-year curriculum is based on the biomedical and clinical sciences required to achieve the goals and objectives of the program. Extensive didactic, clinical, and laboratory phases of training are offered in conventional prosthodontics, esthetic, implant, and digital dentistry. An additional emphasis is also placed on diagnosis, treatment planning, as well as comprehensive care for advanced patients using an evidence-based, multidisciplinary approach. The program believes that board certification is a critical step in professional growth, and the program emphasizes a mindset towards achieving this goal.

Advanced Education in Esthetics and Operative Dentistry
The Advanced Education in Esthetics and Operative Dentistry certificate program allows residents to have direct interaction with most dental specialties, including Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Endodontics, and Orthodontics. Therefore, it contributes to providing a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and management of patients’ esthetics and functional needs. During our two-year clinical curriculum, residents are trained to provide comprehensive dental care, using the most appropriate technologies available to dental professionals. Residents’ achievements include simple to more extensive smile reconstruction, including teeth whitening, direct composite restorations, porcelain laminate veneers, all-ceramic and porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns, computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) restorations, and implant-supported crowns. The program exposes residents to all specialty phases of dentistry and medicine as they apply to esthetics.
