As a Research Coordinator, Deanna works with and under the direction of the Principal Investigators to develop, implement and coordinate study protocols & manage the daily clinical trial activities. Pamela Corrado
Director of Dental Research
As the Director of Dental Research Administration, Pam is responsible for overseeing financial and regulatory compliance and all research operations at TUSDM. Pam acts as the main research liaison to federal, corporate and foundation funding agencies and Tufts central Research Administration and budget center offices. The Director is charged with providing education, training and support for departmental research coordinators and staff throughout the Dental School as well as for faculty and students interested in research. She is responsible for managing the TUSDM Shared Labs; and shaping the evolving research program at TUSDM.

Jeffrey Daddona
Sr. Research Technician
Jeff conducts research within and manages the Gavel Centers laboratories dedicated to in vitro research in dental materials. He is responsible for monitoring student and faculty usage of laboratory space to ensure compliance and safety. Jeff also conducts literature searches for protocol design; writes research protocols, abstracts and reports; orders lab supplies and equipment; and coordinates equipment maintenance.

Eileen Doherty
Director of Pre-doctoral Student Research
Assistant Professor in Comprehensive Care
Professor Doherty manages the TUSDM Student Research Program, including the Student Summer Research Fellowships, the Dean’s Research Scholars Scholarship, Bates-Andrews Research Day, and the Robert R. Andrews Awards Dinner. She also promotes outside research and presentation opportunities for TUSDM students and tracks all outcomes related to student research. Eileen is available for assistance with proposal writing, and can assist with material and testing set-up.

Katie Dunn
Program Manager
Katie manages the administrative processes for the Dental Research department and Gavel Research Center. She coordinates administrative process of the pre-doctoral Student Research Program, oversees the International Research Program, coordinates travel for the AADR/IADR Annual Meeting and supervises the department Administrative Assistant and the Gavel Center Sr. Research Tech. Katie also acts as liaison to other School and University offices, assists with research budget management/planning, and submitting grant applications.

Dr. Arwa Farag
Instructor in Diagnostic Science
Dr. Arwa Farag is a Diplomat of both the American Board of Oral Medicine and the American Board of Orofacial Pain. She is also a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeon of Edinburgh. Dr. Farag has a clinical interest in early detection of oral cancer, providing oral care for patients during/after their cancer therapy, treating chronic orofacial pain cases and managing oral manifestation of systemic disease. She is involved in several studies and clinical trials and has a couple of publications in peer-reviewed journals. She offers lectures at TUSDM and is involved in oral evaluation training sessions at oncology centers across the country.  Dr. Farag is an active member of the American Academy of Oral Medicine, American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP) and the American Association of Dental Research and currently serves as a co-chair for the scientific committee of the AAOM.

Dr. Matthew Finkelman,
Director of the Division of Biostatistics and Experimental Design
Associate Professor in Public Health & Community Service
He has a Ph.D. in Statistics from Stanford University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Harvard School of Public Health prior to joining Tufts.  Dr. Finkelman’s research interests include special care in dentistry, psychometrics, and the design of computer-based questionnaires.  He has authored or co-authored over 100 abstracts presented at national and international conferences, as well as over 60 papers published in peer-reviewed journals such as Statistics in Medicine, Psychometrika, the Journal of the American Dental Association, and the New England Journal of Medicine.  He was a keynote speaker at the inaugural conference of the International Association of Computerized Adaptive Testing and was inducted into the Robert R. Andrews Research Honor Society in 2012.

Amanda Gozzi
Program Manager
Amanda acts as a liaison between TUSDM and the Tufts Medical Center/Tufts University Health Sciences IRB. She works with faculty and students to develop supporting documents for their studies and facilitate the submission and approval process with the IRB. Amanda also coordinates the initiation of studies, ensuring that all study team members are properly trained and compliance is maintained throughout the duration of the study.

Dr. Yoon (Henry) Kang
Assistant Professor in Comprehensive Care
Dr. Kang is a co-investigator on two clinical studies involving restorations. He also oversees both clinical as well as bench experiments which are focused on dental materials and devices, biocompatibility of dental restorative materials, and biomaterials for craniofacial reconstruction.  Bench studies within the Center include but are not limited to:  development of new dental and biomaterials that withstand the oral environment; longevity, fatigue and effectiveness of dental materials; evaluation and interaction of the resin matrix/filler interfaces and tooth-dental material interfaces; fluoride release and recharge of materials; clinical correlation of dental materials.  Dr. Kang works extensively with students in a mentorship capacity.  He sits on several thesis committees for postdoctoral and postgraduate students, and is responsible for designing protocols, writing proposals, analyzing data, interacting with external research sponsors, presenting results, and publishing scholarly articles.

Michael Kazmierski
Research Administrator II
Mike is responsible for the full life cycle of research administration ranging from proposal development to post-award administration, award compliance and close-out. As part of the TUSDM Research Administration team, he works in conjunction with research faculty, school leadership, and both the pre-award and post-award divisions of the office of the Vice Provost for Research on proposal submission and management of federally-funded awards, foundation grants, corporate grants and other sponsored research contracts. Mike is a resource to faculty and other research staff in terms of navigating both the electronic research administration systems and tools as well as the institutional and regulatory requirements that govern research. Additionally, he assists the TUSDM research community with Research Administration training and outreach efforts.

James Kirchmeyer
Research Coordinator
James helps to oversee the various research studies conducted at TUSDM. Most of his job responsibility is to monitor the studies for compliance purposes as well as aid in submitting documentation to the Institutional Review Board. He also works with the many faculty and students conducting research in order to provide assistance to their studies.

Dr. Gerard Kugel
Associate Dean for Dental Research
Professor of Comprehensive Care
Dr. Kugel has been conducting research at the Dental School for 25 years which has contributed to his expertise in Clinical Research and Esthetic Dentistry. He is a reviewer and board member for many dental journals and is a Fellow in the American and International Colleges of Dentistry, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Academy of Dental Materials. Dr. Kugel has published over 120 articles and over 200 abstracts in the field of restorative materials and techniques. He was given over 300 lectures both nationally and internationally.

Ledja Lera
Administrative Assistant
Ledja provides advanced administrative support and communications for Research Administration. She handles complex and confidential situations and requests. She often serves in a highly visible capacity as resource for department with students, staff, faculty and other constituents.  She oversees daily operation of office, evaluating workflow and productivity and providing direction and guidance to office staff. Ledja coordinates the department’s budget to include monitoring, tracking expenditures, troubleshooting problems and preparing reports. Last but not least she plans and coordinates meetings and special events, including contacting speakers, designing promotional material and coordinating support for speakers and presenters.

Dr. Britta Magnuson
Assistant Director of the Division of Biostatistics and Experimental Design
Assistant Professor in Diagnostic Science
She works with pre- and post-doctoral students and faculty by assisting with study design and developing protocols for the Institutional Review Board process.  Her teaching responsibilities include supervising and instructing students during an Oral Medicine rotation. Additionally, she treats patients in the Oral Medicine clinic.  Dr. Magnuson has worked on several clinical trials regarding such topics as oral hygiene, tooth whitening, restorative materials, and Sjögren’s Syndrome.  For these trials she develops protocols, writes reports, and screens, examines, and evaluates trial participants.  She has authored and co-authored publications and abstracts, mentors students on research projects, and was inducted into the Robert R. Andrews Research Honor Society in 2014.  She received her D.M.D. degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Sarah Pagni
Instructor in Public Health & Community Service
She received a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science with a concentration in microbiology from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai for her dissertation “Phenotypic Analysis of Dengue Virus with Different Epidemic Capacities in Primary Human Cells and Vector Contribution to Infectivity.”  Afterward, she completed an M.P.H. with a concentration in quantitative methods from the Harvard School of Public Health.  At TUSDM, Dr.  Pagni works with pre-doctoral students, residents, master’s degree candidates, and faculty on research project development and analysis.  Dr. Pagni’s research has been published in several peer-reviewed journals including PLoS Pathogens, Immunologic Research and Environmental Microbiology. She was inducted into the Robert R. Andrews Research Honor Society in 2016.

Dr. Athena Papas
Professor in Diagnostic Science
Dr. Papas received her dental degree from Harvard and her PhD in Oral Biology from MIT. She had a pre doctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and a Post- doctoral Fellowship at Children’s Hospital. With expertise in the oral healthcare of the elderly, medically compromised, Sjögrens, cancer and bone marrow transplant patients, Dr. Papas has been the principal investigator of over 100 clinical trials. She has co-authored a textbook on Nutrition in Clinical Dentistry and Geriatric Dentistry.  Dr. Papas was selected as the 2009 recipient of the International Association of Dental Research PTT Distinguished Scientist Award and has been the President of PTT and chaired the distinguished scientist awards committee. She also has received the Gavel and Pierre Fauchard awards and is a life fellow of the American College of Dentists, the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Oral Medicine.

Quigley Raleigh

Quigley is responsible for the full life cycle of research administration ranging from proposal development to post-award administration, award compliance and close-out. In this capacity, she works collaboratively with research faculty, school leadership, and both the pre-award and post-award divisions of the Office of the Vice Provost for Research. Quigley oversees a broad and varied portfolio comprised of federally-funded awards, foundation grants, corporate grants and other sponsored research contracts. She provides a comprehensive level of service geared toward the needs of the dental research community, including preparation of complex sponsored proposals, interpreting intricate sponsor rules and regulations, navigating research administration tools and systems, overseeing the institutional and regulatory requirements that govern research, and identifying and working toward resolution of complex pre- and post-award matters.

Tamar Roomian
Research Analyst
She has an MS in nutritional epidemiology from the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Tufts University, and an MPH with a concentration in epidemiology and biostatistics from the Tufts University School of Medicine. At TUSDM, Ms. Roomian works with students and faculty on research project design and analysis.

Dr. Mabi Singh
Associate Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr. Singh has worked with Dr. Athena Papas since 1999 to identify the best evidence-based care to improve oral health outcomes of care and incorporates such research into the diagnostic, management and treatment protocols. He works with high risk patients to help manage and treat their oral complications, which arising from systemic medical and drug therapies, auto-immune diseases (e.g. Sjӧgren’s syndrome), pre and post radiation therapy, and chemo therapies. He is interested and believes in the possibility of over-coming various risk factors in the mouth and prevention of occurrences of multiple dental cavities, failures of restorations (e.g. fillings and crowns); prevent and treat various kinds of infections (e.g. bacterial and fungal), burning sensation, oral lesions (e.g. Lichen Planus) and dry mouth to decrease cost of treatment, stress and improve overall quality of life.
