General / Comprehensive Dental Clinics

Overview

For patients who want general/comprehensive dental care, Tufts Dental Clinics offer two options:

  • General/Comprehensive Dentistry (Pre-Doctoral Clinics)
  • Advanced General Dentistry(Post-Doctoral Clinic)

General/Comprehensive Dentistry (Pre-Doctoral Clinics)

High Quality Dental Services at Significant Savings

Tufts’ Pre-Doctoral Clinics offer comprehensive dental care, including fillings, crowns, bridges, implant restorations, dentures, limited endodontics (root canals), limited esthetic dentistry (basic teeth whitening and bonding services and tooth-colored fillings), limited periodontics (treatment of gum disease), and oral pathology consultations.

In the Pre-Doctoral Clinics, dental students provide services under the close supervision of experienced faculty dentists. The students conduct a thorough evaluation to diagnose each patient’s needs and develop a comprehensive treatment plan before beginning treatment. Appointments at the Pre-Doctoral Clinics take longer than at private dental practices because dental students often work at a slower pace and faculty dentists frequently check the progress of procedures to ensure high quality care.

Many patients use the Pre-Doctoral Clinics because they believe it is worth spending the extra time in this teaching setting so that they can receive high quality care at significantly lower fees than most private practices.

Advanced General Dentistry (Post-Doctoral Clinic)

Advanced General Dentistry is a post-doctoral clinic that offers comprehensive dental care, including routine cleanings and exams, fillings, crowns, bridges, implant restorations, dentures, and treatment of more complex general dentistry cases.

In this clinic, dentists who have completed dental school and are receiving 1-2 additional years of training in advanced general dentistry provide treatment under the supervision of faculty dentists. Fees at the Advanced General Dentistry Clinic are slightly higher than at the Pre-Doctoral Clinics, though they are still lower than the fees charged by dentists in private practice.

New Patients

Tufts Dental Clinics welcome new patients.

Most new patients of Tufts General Dentistry Pre-Doctoral Clinics and Tufts Advanced General Dentistry Post-Doctoral Clinic have two initial appointments before treatment begins. At your first visit, we will review your medical and dental history, perform a preliminary oral exam, and take a complete set of dental x-rays (as needed). At the second appointment, we will perform a comprehensive oral exam and explain your Treatment Plan and cost. Each of these initial appointments may last up to 3 hours.

Please bring the following to your first appointment:

  • Dental insurance card (if applicable) and photo identification
  • Dental x-rays taken in the last two years (if available)
  • List of your current medications and dosages
  • Primary care physician’s name, address, and phone number
  • Emergency contact’s name and phone number
  • Payment or co-payment by cash, check, or MasterCard, Visa, or Discover credit/debit card
