Global Service Learning In Jamaica

This January, after several months of communication and preparation, Tufts Global Service Learning teamed up with Health Care International to provide dental care to patients in remote areas of Jamaica.

Our team of second and third year students were led by Dr. John Morgan. Having completed rotations in oral surgery, oral health promotion, and global service learning the third year students were able to provide much needed dental surgery and dental education to patients who otherwise would not receive this care.

Healthcare International has been providing both medical and dental care in Jamaica for the past 25 years. Our Tufts contingent worked side by side with dental students and faculty from University of Michigan School of Dentistry. The students also worked with doctors and nurses, helping to diagnose patients with uncontrolled high blood pressure.

The Jamaican population, particularly the young students, were friendly and appreciated the efforts of our Tufts team. Thank you to Drs. John Winterly D77, Jamie Diament-Golub D87 and Jon Golub D85, all of whom are dental alums, for accompanying the team.
