Nearly 28,000 dental professionals converged on the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center from January 30 through February 2 for the 2014 Yankee Dental Congress, hosted by the Massachusetts Dental Society. The congress featured dozens of speakers, hundreds of exhibitors, and many special events. And throughout the entire congress, TUSDM was present to celebrate and learn.

There were 44 speakers listed in the Yankee Dental roster who had Tufts University affiliations, most of those being faculty members and residents at TUSDM. Among them were Dr. Irina Dragan, Resident in the Department of Periodontology, Patricia Cohen and Dr. Paul Levi, both Clinical Associate Professors in the Department of Periodontology, Dr. Gerard Kugel, Professor and Associate Dean for Research Administration, and Dr. Noshir Mehta, Professor, Director of the Craniofacial Pain Center, and Associate Dean of Global Relations. TUSDM students – Kian Azarnoush, D15, Sapan Bhatt, D14, and Stefania Grous, DG13, Resident in the Advanced Education in Esthetic Dentistry program – also presented student posters in the main exhibit hall at the convention center
The Office on Development and Alumni Relations had over 1,000 participants at the Annual TUSDM Alumni Reception at Yankee, which took place January 31 at the Westin. Participants included alums as well as their friends, families and colleagues. The reception gave participants a chance to reunite with former classmates, professors and administrators during Yankee and trade stories. See pictures >>
Dean Huw Thomas hosted the TUSDM Faculty Reception at Yankee on January 30 at the Westin. Approximately 70 volunteer, part-time, and full-time faculty and their friends and family attended the reception to mingle with colleagues and discuss what they’d learned at the congress. See pictures >>
Clinician and Hygienist of the Year
On January 29, the Massachusetts Dental Society recognized Dr. Michael Kahn, Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Oral Medicine and Craniofacial Pain and Katherine Pelullo, Dental Hygienist for the Tufts Statewide Community Dental Program, at the Presidential Awards Ceremony and Reception. Dr. Kahn received the Clinician of the Year Award, and Pelullo received the Hygienist of the Year Award during the reception, which took place at the Westin. The awards are designed to recognize a New England dentists, dental educators and staff who have been supportive of the Yankee Dental Congress and excel in their fields, and carry a prize of a donation to a dental school of the winner’s choice.
