The First Italian Tufts Alumni Scientific Meeting, held in Venice June 24-26 was a huge success, on both the scientific ally and on the socially. The meeting was held at Park Hotel Villa Fiorita, Sogedin spa Hotel Company, who graciously sponsored lunches and dinner during scientific session.
Alumni arrived from all over Italy by high speed train, cars and planes on the evening of Friday June 24th. That evening, there was an organized dinner where alumni reconnected and relaxed. On Saturday, morning sessions were held from 8:30am-2:00pm in Sala (Hall) Verdi, named for the famous Italian musician. Lectures were presented by Dr. Luca Dalloca , Dr. Ignazio Berlucchi, Dr. Masaiko Nikaido, Tufts Japanese Alumni President, Dr. Luca Gobbato and Dr. Fabio Mazzocco. Attendees had lunch poolside (see pictures) and then boarded busses to tour Venice and enjoy an aperitif on the terrace of “Compagnia della Vela,” the famous and ancient sailing Club located near Piazza S. Marco which faces the “Chiesa della Salute” a beautiful church mirroring it’s white image on the waters of Canal Grande. Alumni then drove from Piazza S. Marco to Riva degli Schiavoni to have dinner at Paradiso Restaurant. The group slowly made their way back by boat through the canals while admiring the lights of Venice in the darkness.
The next ITA Meeting will be held in Rome on January 21, 2012.
