2nd Year Residents

Abeer Abdullah Dr. Abeer Abdullah is a graduate student from King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where she received her BDS degree with honors in 2010. She eventually earned her position as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at KAU dental school in 2012. Dr. Abeer was awarded a scholarship from KAU, which undertakes full sponsorship of her graduate and postgraduate studies and training. She is following her dream to become a well-known pioneer in pediatric dentistry, by joining the 2 years residency program at Tufts University. In addition to teaching, she enjoys research with interests in epidemiology of childhood caries, prevention strategies, dental trauma, behavior management in pediatric patients, and child abuse. In her free time, Dr. Abeer likes to participate in community health services with her friends, learn new languages, and improve skills in every field of her life.
JoshGascoyne Dr. Josh Gascoyne grew up in Houston, TX. He attended Baylor University where he was awarded his BA in finance. He later attended Baylor College of Dentistry where he graduated with his D.D.S. in 2015. He is currently a pediatric dental resident at Tufts pursuing his passion of children’s dentistry. He enjoys spending time with his wife and three children by exploring all that New England has to offer.
Fahad Hegazi Dr. Fahad Hegazi received his BDS in 2012 from the University of Dammam, Saudi Arabia. He then worked as a teaching assistant in his Alma matter for two years. After he completes his residency in Pediatric Dentistry at TUSDM, he hopes to further continue his education by receiving his doctorate degree. Dr. Hegazi plans on pursuing a career in academics in Saudi Arabia after completing his education in the USA.
Yazan Jaber Dr. Yazan Jaber is from Syria and graduated from Damascus University Dental school in 2001. He practiced general dentistry for 5 years, then moved to Portland, Oregon in 2012 where he got a graduate degree in clinical informatics from Oregon Health and Science University. He enjoys hiking, photography, and spending time with his wife and daughter.
Kholoud Kabli Dr. Kholoud Kabli was born in California and raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where she earned her Bachelor degree in Dental Medicine and Surgery at King Abdul Aziz University. She worked for Ministry of Health where she practiced pediatric and general dentistry for four years. She moved to Boston in 2014 with her three lovely kids and husband who is earning a doctorate and clinical degree in prosthodontics at Boston University. She loves shopping, traveling and cooking. Family is number one in her life.
Azita Khanbodaghi Dr. Azita Khanbodaghi was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from University of California Los Angeles. Following graduation, she pursued her dream of becoming a dentist. She received her D.M.D degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine followed by one year of General Practice residency at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She then worked as general dentist for few years. In her free time, Azita enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling and going to the gym.
Derek Leung Dr. Derek Leung grew up in New Jersey, completing his double major in Cell Biology & Neuroscience and English from Rutgers University. He continued his education at Boston University earning a Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 2015. Derek is an avid runner who enjoys reading, writing and cooking in his free time.
Lila Ninh Dr. Lila Ninh was born in Vietnam and was raised in Southern California. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine in 2007 and her DDS from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Dentistry in 2013. She worked as an associate for one year before joining Tufts in 2015 as a Pediatric Dental resident. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing volleyball and dancing.
CarlaSchmidl Dr. Carla Schmidl was born and raised in Lima, Peru where she earned a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree at the Universidad de San Martín de Porres. She subsequently earned a DDS degree at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco and completed a GPR at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York. She came to Boston in 2015 and is currently enrolled in the Pediatric Dentistry program at Tufts. In her free time she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with family.

1st Year Residents

Dr. Nairouz Abdelsalam was born and raised in Benghazi, Libya and got her BDS degree from Benghazi University in June 2008. She had the privilege of working as a Teaching Assistant at the Pediatric Dentistry Department at Benghazi University in Feb 2010. Her journey in the United States started in July 2014 when she joined NYU College of Dentistry for one year as an international student in an advanced program in pediatric dentistry. Furthermore By joining UCLA on Sep 2015 as one of Pediatric Advanced Clinical Trainees. She is excited to be part of the Tufts pediatric dentistry family and has no doubt that she will have an outstanding learning experience at such a prestigious university. She loves to spend quality times with friends and family, also enjoys cooking, traveling in her spare time.
Dr. Haifa Aldakhil was born and raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where she graduated from King Abdulaziz University with a Bachelor’s degree in Dental Medicine and Surgery. Soon after graduation, Dr. Aldakhil started working as a staff dentist at National Guard Hospital in Jeddah where she had the chance to work with some of the best Consultant Pedodontists in town. As a result, she was granted a scholarship to pursue her dream, which enabled her to join the unique Pediatric Dentistry Program at Tufts. Moreover, she showed special interest in the management of medically compromised patients and infection control. On a personal note, Dr. Aldakhil treasures friendship and gives a good amount of her time to catch up with her close friends. She loves baking and is well-known for her famous brownies (to die for!). Exploring new scents, countries and cultures is on the top of her obsessions.
Dr. Mohammed Alulaiyan is a graduate student from King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he received his Bachelor of Dental Medicine and Surgery (BDS) degree with honors in 2010. After graduation, he joined the Orthodontics/Pedodontics department in Qassim University as a teaching assistant. After spending 2 years there, Mohammed returned to his school (KAU) to work there at the pediatric dentistry department. In 2016, he moved to Boston to specialize in Pediatric Dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM). He is due to complete his combined Pediatric Dentistry and Master’s Degree in June 2019. Dr. Alulaiyan likes to spend time with his friends, watching sports and participate in community health services.
Dr. Solafa Ayoub was born and raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She graduated from King Abdulaziz University with a Bachelor degree in Dental Medicine and Surgery. She then worked as a general dentist at King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital for three years. Afterwards, she returned to King Abdulaziz University as a teaching assistant. Solafa moved to Boston in 2012 to continue her education and earned a Doctorate degree in Dental Public Health from Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2016. In her free time, she enjoys scuba diving, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Quynh Bui was born in Vietnam, moving to Boston in her teenage years. She graduated from Tufts University in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Child Psychology; she then pursued further education at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, eventually earning her D.M.D. in 2008. Post-graduation, she worked several years at a dental practice in Salem, MA, before finally opening her own family dental practice in Stoneham, MA in 2012. After years of working in the community, she decided to enter the pediatric dental residency program at Tufts in 2016. In her precious free time, Dr. Bui enjoys spending time with her husband and her 1 year old daughter, playing tennis, and eating at great restaurants.
Dr. Faisal Dardeer is from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He earned his Bachelor degree in Dental Medicine and Surgery from King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in 2013. He worked as a teaching assistant in the pediatric dentistry department at KAU for two years. He loves teaching and sharing his experiences with the students. He plans to go back to KAU after finishing his program at Tufts to continue his teaching job there. Dr. Faisal enjoys spending time with his family and friends, playing video games and traveling.
Dr. Morvarid Moini was born in Tehran, Iran and grew up in Florida since age one. Originally, Morvarid received her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Florida International University. Later she found a passion in dentistry like her older sister and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Central Florida. As a graduate from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Morvarid received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree and Masters of Public Health in 2016. She is currently a first year Pediatric Dental resident at Tufts. She looks forward to pursuing her passion in this field and hopes to join her sister and brother-in-law in Florida to establish a comprehensive family dental practice with her contribution in Pediatrics. During her free time, she enjoys traveling, playing piano and spending time with her family and friends.
Dr. Shabnam Toopchi was born and raised in Iran where she earned her D.D.S. degree from Tehran Azad University, Dental Center in 2013. After her graduation, she started practicing dentistry in a small village near her hometown, Tehran. Getting involved in exploring dentistry through practicing, conducting research, getting involved in community projects etc. made her more eager to pursue her dream of becoming a pediatric dentist. Joining Tufts School of Dental Medicine has laid down her first concrete steps toward pursuing her passion and she hopes in the future, she will be able to put more smiles on kids’ faces and enjoy watching them be happier and healthier. In her free time, she loves spending time with family and friends, cooking, and listening to music.
Dr. Wendy Tran was born and raised in Orange County, California. She received her B.S. in Neurobiology at University of California, Irvine and her D.D.S at UCLA School of Dentistry. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, and trying new food.
