Stanley A. Alexander, DMD
Dr. Alexander is Chairman and a tenured professor of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. He received his DMD degree from Tufts University and a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Harvard University and the Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Boston. He received a Certificate in Orthodontics from Columbia University. He is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Alexander taught at the School of Dental Medicine, Stony Brook University for 28 years, where he chaired the Department of Children’s Dentistry, and founded the postdoctoral program in Orthodontics. At Stony Brook, he carried the titles of Distinguished Teaching Professor, (1996) and Distinguished Service Professor (2006), before he returned to Tufts University to chair the department. He is also a consultant in the Department of Dental & Oral Surgery at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York.
He has authored more than 60 articles in professional journals and has given many continuing education courses locally, regionally, and nationally.
Laura Camacho-Castro, DDS
Dr. Camacho-Castro is associate professor in Pediatric Dentistry. She received her DDS degree from the University of Puebla, Mexico and specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry from Tufts University. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Camacho-Castro has taught at Tufts University for more than 15 years and is currently the director of the Medically Compromised Patient Clinic. She has consulted in over a dozen children’s health care agencies and Outreach activities regarding dental disease and helped with the inception of the Tufts “Baby” Clinic.
She has authored many articles in the pediatric dental literature and has presented numerous lectures and continuing education courses at professional national and international meetings.
Christina Zervou, DMD, MSc
Dr. Christina Zervou is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor. She received her Doctor of Dentistry Degree from Semmelweis University, her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry, Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and Master of Science (MSc) degrees from Tufts University.
Dr. Zervou joined Tufts as an Assistant Professor in 2003. She was the Director and Course Director of the Pre-Doctoral Program in Pediatric Dentistry at Tufts University and the co-founder and Director of the Tufts “Baby” Dental Clinic for several years. She has served in the past as a Clinical Instructor of Pediatric Dentistry at the Univ. of Connecticut, and as an Associate Medical Staff at Yale-New Haven Hospital & Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, CT. She has provided direct patient care at dental clinics and private offices in the states of Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Dr. Zervou has delivered several professional presentations, published multiple papers and has received many awards for her studies. She is a member of multiple American and European professional and scientific organizations.
Dr. Zervou has a special interest in Infant Oral Health Care, Pediatric Esthetic Dentistry & Preventive and Interceptive Orthodontics.
Cheen Y. Loo, BDS, MPH, PhD
Dr. Loo is assistant professor and Director of the Postdoctoral Program in Pediatric Dentistry. She received her dental degree and Ph.D degree from the University of Sydney and her MPH and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Boston University. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She has authored more than a dozen professional articles in the scientific journals with a research interest in microbiology, early childhood caries and autism.
Nooruddin S. Pradhan, BDS, DMD, MS
Dr. Pradhan is an assistant professor in Pediatric Dentistry. He received his BDS degree from Liaquat Medical College, Pakistan and his DMD, MS and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Tufts University. He also holds a fellowship certificate in craniomandibular joint disorders from Tufts University.
Dr. Pradhan is a well-sought speaker on TMJ disorders and has an active research interest in cariology.
Maria Kritsineli, DMD
Dr. Kritsineli is an assistant professor in Pediatric Dentistry. She received her dental degree from Aristotelion University, Greece and her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Tufts University. She is currently the director of the Cotting School.
Dr. Kritsineli has published in the professional journals and has a research interest in caries prevalence.
Alfred P. Rich, DMD, MDS
Dr. Rich is an assistant clinical professor and part-time member of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. He received his DMD degree, MDS, and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Pittsburgh.
He has authored multiple publications in the professional literature and has special research interest in nasal and oral airways. He also has the responsibility for monitoring the status of the research projects for the postdoctoral program.
Stuart S. Gould, DMD
Dr. Gould is an assistant clinical professor and part-time member of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. He received his DMD degree from Tufts University, his Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Tufts Medical Center, and a Fellowship Certificate in Dental Anesthesia from Mt. Sinai Medical Center, New York. He holds multiple consultant positions at various hospitals in Massachusetts.
Dr. Gould’s primary responsibility to the department is in the supervision of the sedation clinic in the postdoctoral program.
William B. Chan, DMD
Dr. Chan is an assistant clinical professor and part-time member of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. He received his DMD and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Tufts University.
Dr. Chan has a special interest in malocclusion early intervention and is actively engaged in private practice in the state of Rhode Island.
Meletia Laskou, DDS, DMD
Dr. Meletia Laskou is an associate clinical professor and part-time member of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. She received her DDS degree from Aristotle University, Greece and her DMD and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Tufts University.
She was the former director of the pre-doctoral program in pediatric dentistry, and while a full-time faculty member taught many courses at the pre-doctoral and postdoctoral level, as well as lecturing locally and nationally. She has clinical and surgical privileges at Tufts Medical Center.
Dr. Laskou has authored publications in the professional literature and has participated in many community outreach activities such as the Cotting School and the Tufts Asian Evening Clinic. Her current research interests are in children with cerebral palsy and children with hypophosphatasia. She is currently engaged in private practice and part-time teaching.
Leonard Carapezza, DMD
Dr. Carapezza is an associate clinical professor and part-time member of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. He received his DMD degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey.
Dr. Carapezza has a major interest in the early treatment of malocclusion where he focuses all his professional time.
He is actively engaged in private practice and in lecturing nationwide on a regular basis. He has published numerous articles in different journals about the delivery of early treatment to correct malocclusion.
Joseph O’Donnell, DMD, MS
Dr. O’Donnell is an associate clinical professor and a part-time member of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. He received his D.M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine and his M.S. degree from Tufts University.
Dr. O’Donnell has dedicated and important part of his professional life to children with special needs.
He has authored multiple publications in professional journals, is the former director of the GPR program and is engaged in part-time teaching and private practice. Dr. O’Donnell is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Arnold Weiss, DDS, MS
Dr. Weiss is an assistant clinical professor at Tufts University. He received his DDS degree from New York University College of Dentistry. He received his postdoctoral and his Master of Science degree in Pediatric Dentistry from Boston University.
He has a special interest in the area of Infant Oral Health and has lectured about it nationwide. Dr. Weiss is actively engaged in private practice and has published multiple articles about non-pharmacologic behavior management.
Rashmi Shah, DMD, MS
Dr. Shah is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Tufts University.
She received her BDS degree from Bombay University, India and her DMD degree from Tufts University. Her Master’s degree and her Pediatric dentistry postdoctoral degree from Boston University.
She was appointed Member of the Board of Registration in Dentistry. She is currently an examiner for the Northeast Regional Board of Dental Examiners. She is actively engaged in her private practice and teaches part-time at Tufts University.
David Tesini, DMD, MS
Dr. Tesini is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry.
He received his DMD degree from Tufts University and his Pediatric Dentistry postdoctoral degree from Tufts University. He was inducted into fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Scotland in 2001.
Dr. Tesini has numerous publications in the areas of prevention, behavior management and patients with disabilities. Dr. Tesini is engaged in part-time teaching and maintains a private practice in Natick, MA.
Gary Warrington, DMD
Dr. Warrington is an Assistant Clinical professor at Tufts University.
He received his DMD degree from Tufts University and his Pediatric Dentistry degree from New England Medical Center Hospital. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and teaches part-time at Tufts University. Dr. Warrington maintains a private practice in Winchester, MA and has published multiple articles related to special health care needs children.
Diba Dastjerdi, DDS, DMD
Dr. Dastjerdi received her DDS degree and certificate in pediatric dentistry from Behesti University, Tehran, Iran and a DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She is a clinical instructor in the Department of Pediatric dentistry. She possesses extensive clinical experience in oral health education and prevention. Dr. Dastjerdi has written multiple articles related to caries prevalence and has received multiple awards for her academic achievements.
Shiow-Jiin Jaw, DDS
Dr. Jaw is a Director of Predoctoral Pediatric Dentistry. She received her DDS degree in 1987 from Taipei Medical University and her Certificate of Pediatric Dentistry from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2007. Her research interests include skeletal aberration during palatal expansion.
Serena Kassam, DMD
Dr. Kassam is a clinical instructor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. She received her DMD degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2005 and her certificate of Pediatric Dentistry from St. Joseph’s Hospital, Rhode Island in 2007. She currently holds a teaching position at St. Joseph’s Hospital as well.
Martin Kaplan, DMD
Dr. Kaplan is clinical instructor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. He received his DMD degree from Tufts University of Dental Medicine in 1975 and his Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center, New York, in 1977. His interests are in the area of laser dentistry.
Virginia Burns, RDH, BS
Ms. Virginia Burns is a registered Dental Hygienist with degrees in biology and psychology. She received her dental hygiene degree from the Forsyth School for Dental Hygiene in Boston. Ms. Burns has extensive experience in children and adolescent oral health education. She is actively involved in pediatric dentistry outreach and community service, and was involved in the inception of the Baby Clinic and strengthening the relationship between the Tufts Medical Center Department of General Pediatrics and the Tufts Pediatric Dentistry Asian Clinics. In 2004, Ms. Burns became the first dental hygienist to receive membership in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
