The Predoctoral program of instruction in Endodontics is an integral component of the dental curriculum during the second, third and fourth years of dental school. This program is structured to include both a didactic endodontic course as well as a preclinical endodontic laboratory during the sophomore year. During the junior and senior years, students diagnose and treat clinical endodontic cases as well as attend a series of advanced endodontic seminars.
The objective of the predoctoral endodontic program is to enable the dental student to understand the scope and basic principles of endodontics and their clinical application in order to diagnose and treat most pulpally and periradicular involved teeth on a biological basis, with confidence, and with a high percentage of success.

Preclinical Endodontics (2nd year)
The preclinical endodontic didactic and laboratory courses are given in the winter term of the second year. This course prepares the student to identify etiologic factors, diagnose and treat diseases of the pulp and periradicular tissues. Endodontic procedures, completed in the laboratory, are closely supervised and evaluated. The student:teacher ratio is approximately 7:1.
Clinical Endodontics (3rd and 4th years)
Predoctoral students diagnose and treat endodontic patients utilizing the latest technology in rotary instrumentation, digital radiography as well as other electronic endodontic instruments. The clinical endodontic program is closely supervised with a student:teacher ratio of 3:1.
Endodontic Seminars (3rd and 4th years)
A series of four endodontic seminars are conducted through out the junior and senior years. Both evidence-based and case-based learning are emphasized as well as discussions involving professional communication skills, endodontic diagnosis, advanced endodontic techniques and state of the art endodontic materials and equipment.
