The first year consists primarily of basic science, patient simulation courses, and introduction to clinic. Normal human anatomy and physiology are the main theme of the basic science courses, which include Biochemistry, Histology, Gross Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Nutrition, Microbiology, Physiology and Basic Human Pathology I and Immunology. The patient simulation courses focus on Dental Anatomy and Occlusion I, Operative Dentistry, Biomaterials, and Craniofacial Function I. Courses are also offered in Ethics and Professionalism, Oral Health Promotion, Practice Management I, and Medicine I. In the winter trimester, the students are introduced to clinic in Introduction to Clinical Experience I.
