Faculty – Comprehensive Care

Charles Rankin, D.M.D. is Professor and Interim Chairman of the Department of Diagnosis and Comprehensive Care. Dr. Rankin, a native of Everett, Massachusetts, entered the dental field in 1968 when he was assigned as a dental technician in the U.S. Air Force. He received his B.A. in Biology from Salem State College in 1976 and his D.M.D. from Tufts University, School of Dental Medicine in 1979. Dr. Rankin practiced five years as an Air Force general dentist and returned to Tufts to earn his endodontic certificate in 1986. He became Board-certified by the American Board of Endodontics in 1990. He practiced endodontics at Andrews AFB in Maryland and the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado before retiring from the Air Force in 1995.Dr. Rankin joined TUSDM in 1996 and served as the Director of Predoctoral Endodontics for fifteen years. He currently limits his practice to endodontics in Tufts Dental Associates at 1 Kneeland Street. Dr. Rankin was presented with the Dean’s Award in Clinical Teaching in 2000 and the Dean’s Award in Preclinical Teaching in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. He holds memberships in the American Dental Association, American Dental Education Association, American Association of Endodontists, American College of Dentists and the Massachusetts Association of Endodontists. Dr. Rankin has lectured locally, nationally and internationally as well as published several articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. His current research interests include examining the possible correlation between Raynaud’s phenomenon and pulpal disease.
Mark Caddell, D.D.S.  Dr. Caddell lives in Carlisle, Mass.  He received his BS from the University of Cincinnati in 1974 and his DDS from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1977.  Upon graduation he served for two years in the U.S. Public Health Service.  In 1979 Dr. Caddell joined a private practice in Malden, and continues to practice there.  He served two terms on the Board of Health in Carlisle and is a Mentor at Berklee College of Music.  He joined the Tufts faculty in 2014 as a Clinical Instructor and is a Practice Coordinator for Group 1.
Theano Eliopoulos, D.M.D. Dr. Eliopoulos is a native of Winchester, Massachusetts. She received her BA from Tufts University, then her DMD in 1985 from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Upon graduation she worked as a clinical instructor part time at Tufts Dental School in the Division of Prevention and Nutrition, while pursuing associateship positions at several practices north of Boston. She started her private practice in Woburn, Massachusetts in 1988 and practiced there for 24 years. In 2012 she teamed up with her husband’s private practice in Chelmsford, where she still practices part time. She joined the Tufts Dental School faculty as a clinical instructor and is the Practice Coordinator for Group 3. She is happy to be back at her alma mater.
Alan Epstein, D.M.D. Dr. Epstein is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Comprehensive Care and Practice Coordinator for Group Exeter. He was an Operative Instructor in the Department of General Dentistry for 2 years before assuming his current position in 2011. Watching his students’ progress in their clinical skills has been incredibly satisfying; the supportive academic atmosphere at Tufts has reinvigorated his enthusiasm for the profession. Dr. Epstein maintains his private practice in Brookline, and is pleased to recognize that he has treated a significant number of his patients from the time he graduated Tufts in 1982. He wishes to impart a sense of compassion and a clear ethical sense to his students, along with the unequalled technical skills for which Tufts is nationally respected.
Edward Fidrocki, D.D.S.Dr. Edward Fidrocki is an Assistant Clinical Professor and has been a Practice Coordinator since 2003. He received his B.S. from University of Vermont and a D.D.S. from New York University College of Dentistry. He completed a General Practice Residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Fidrocki also is a general dentistry at North End Waterfront Health/ Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was Dental Director for over 15 years.
Kanchan Ganda, M.D. Dr. Kanchan Ganda, a resident of Weston, Massachusetts, is Professor and Head, Division of Medicine, Department of Comprehensive Care at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM). She is also an Associate Staff at the Department of Dentistry, Tufts Medical Center.She received her undergraduate education from Jai Hind College affiliated with Bombay University in Bombay, India. Dr. Ganda obtained her Doctorate of Medicine in 1973 from Seth G.S. Medical College and King Edward Memorial (K.E.M.) Hospital in Bombay, India. Following graduation from medical school, she went on to complete her Medical Internship and Residency in Anesthesiology at King Edward Memorial (K.E.M.) Hospital in Bombay, India.Dr. Ganda is a licensed Physician and has been a Faculty member at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM), since 1980. As Course Director and teacher for Pre-doctoral and Post-doctoral Medicine Courses, Dr. Ganda is involved with the education and training of pre and postdoctoral dental students. Dr. Ganda is also the Medical Consultant for pre and post-doctoral Dental Clinics.
Ruby K. Ghaffari D.M.D. Dr. Ruby Ghaffari is an Assistant Professor and Senior Lead Practice Corodinator in the department of Comprehensive Care She received her DMD degree from Tufts University in 1992. Upon graduation, she started teaching part time in the department of Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry and continued volunteering her time throughout her career. She has been in private practice for the past 21 years and developed two practices in Newton and Downtown Boston. In 2006, she moved to Dubai and joined a multispecialty dental group concentrating on treating complex dental rehabilitation cases. She has also served as  Director of TUSDM Urgent Care Program in the Division of Medicine.
Gulsun Gul, DDS, MBA, MPH, MS Dr. Gul is an Assistant Professor at the Division of Medicine, Department of Comprehensive Care, and Assistant Professor at Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Tufts Dental School. She practices as a Pediatric Dentist at the Forsyth Faculty Associates, at the Forsyth Institute.

Dr. Gul received her dental degree in 1992 from Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey. She received her MBA degree from Suffolk Sawyer School of Management in 1997, MPH degree from Tufts Medical School in 2004, a Certificate of Pediatric Dentistry Degree in 2010 and an MS Degree in 2012 from Tufts Dental School. Dr. Gul held responsibilities as Corporate Director for Hospital Operations, and Project consultant to many private and non-profit institutions including Bayindir Healthcare Systems, Mother Children Education Foundation, Istanbul, Turkey (ACEV), and Health Care City Dental Clinic Project, Dubai. Dr. Gul’s projects focused on creating integrated health care systems and value-based strategic planning for health care entities. Dr. Gul also held responsibilities as the Course Director in Epidemiology and Public Health, for undergraduate and postgraduate dental students, at Tufts Dental School between 2003-2008.

Currently, she is the Director of Medically Complex Patient Clinic, teaching dental management of medically complex patients to dental students, and mentoring student research in the same discipline at TUSDM. She also is responsible for Community Health Center Pediatric Dentistry Rotation for the undergrad dental students under Department of Pediatric Dentistry. She is a member of American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Massachusetts Dental Society, American Dental Association, Massachusetts Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American/International Association of Dental Research, and Special Care Dentistry Association.

Natalie HagelNatalie Hagel RDH, MSis Assistant Professor in the Division of Nutrition in the Department of Comprehensive Care. She received an Associate in Science degree in Dental Hygiene at Middlesex Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree at University of Massachusetts in Exercise Physiology and a Master’s of Science degree in College Student Development and Counseling at Northeastern University. Prior to joining TUSDM in May 2007, Natalie practiced dental hygiene for over 20 years in private specialty offices in Pediatrics and Periodontics. She is also a Public Health dental hygienist and has worked in the Boston Public Schools with the elementary schoolchildren for the past eight years in addition to teaching. She has presented lectures on ergonomics, dental instrumentation and school wide dental health programs at the Yankee Dental Conference and the National Oral Health Conferences. Her current interests are the prevention of dental disease- using the CAMBRA protocol and Interprofessional Education (IPE). She is an active member of the American Public Health Association, the American Dental Education Association and the American Dental Hygienists Association. She presently serves as Oral Health Section Councilor in the American Public Health Association.She enjoys spending as much time as possible with her two grandsons, Benjamin and William and summers in Wells, Maine.
Richard S. Harold, D.M.D., J.D.Dr. Richard S. Harold is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Practice Coordinator in the Department of Comprehensive Care. Dr. Harold, a Massachusetts native, owned and operated a general dentistry practice in Malden for over 25 years before joining the Tufts faculty. He received his B.S. degree from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1975, and his D.M.D. degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1980. Dr. Harold is also an attorney and received his J.D. degree from New England School of Law in 1995. He is a member of the Massachusetts Bar.Dr. Harold has developed and participated in several dental public health programs. He helped establish a dental clinic in Flores, Honduras, Central America where he has visited over the years providing dental services to residents. Within the Malden Public Schools, Dr. Harold provided a dental screening and educational program to grade school students.Dr. Harold holds membership in the American Dental Association, American Dental EducationAssociation and the Massachusetts Dental Society. He is a Fellow of the American College of Legal Medicine. Dr. Harold has a specific interest in dental-legal issues and is a consultant in the areas of dental record keeping, documentation, prescription writing, regulatory issues, dental negligence and standards of care. He has lectured locally and nationally and has published several dental-legal articles.
Olympia Karacosta Dr. Olympia Karacosta is an Assistant Clinical Professor and a Practice Coordinator for Group Berkeley. She has been a faculty at Tufts University in the Department of General Dentistry since 2000. Dr. Karacosta has received her first dental degree, D.D.S., from University of Athens, School of Dental Medicine. She was then accepted at Tufts University where she completed the Esthetic Dentistry Fellowship Program. Upon graduation, she started teaching in the undergraduate clinic as a Practice Coordinator. In 2007, she received her second dental degree, D.M.D., from Tufts University, School of Dental Medicine and the same year she completed the Implant Dentistry Fellowship in the Implant Center at Tufts University. Dr. Karacosta has also practiced in a dental private practice both in Athens, Greece, and in Boston.Dr. Olympia Karacosta has been a member of the Massachusetts Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Academy of Osseointegration.
Mary KalishMary Karish-Dodge, D.M.D. Mary V. Karish-Dodge, DMD is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Group Practice Coordinator.She received her BS degree from Boston College and her DMD degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Karish is a General Dentist in Woonsocket; RI. She is a member of the American Dental Association and the Rhode Island Dental Association and is a Past- President of the Woonsocket District Dental Society. She is currently the Chairperson for the RIDA Council on Ethics, By-Laws and Judicial Affairs. Dr. Karish is a Member of the Academy of General Dentistry and currently holds the position of Treasurer for the Rhode Island section. Dr. Karish is a consultant to the Rhode Island Oral Health Foundation, and is an assistant lead in the dental triage area at the Rhode Island Mission of Mercy annual free dental clinic.
David M. Leader, D.M.D., M.P.H. is an Associate Professor and Lead Practice Coordinator. Additionally, Dr Leader is the Director of the DMD/MPH Dual Degree Track. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art History from Emory University in 1981. He received his D.M.D. Degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1985. He is a 2013 graduate of the Tufts University School of Medicine MPH program. Dr. Leader is the Chairman of the Massachusetts Dental Society Council on Dental Benefit and Reimbursement Plans. He serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the New England Chapter of the National Scleroderma Foundation. He is an Evidence Based Reviewer for the American Dental Association Center for Evidence Based Dentistry. Dr. Leader is the author of over 100 dental and health articles published in the Malden Observer, websites, and other newspapers. Additionally Dr. Leader has published in the Journal of the American Dental Association and the Journal of the Massachusetts Dental Society. Dr. Leader lectures nationally on scleroderma and oral health.. His research interests include access to oral health care for patients with autoimmune disease. The Scleroderma Foundation named Dr Leader their Doctor of the year in 2008. He is a member of the Alumni Advisory Board of the Public Health and Professional Degree Programs of Tufts Medical School, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the American Dental Association.
William Lobel, D.M.D. Dr Lobel received his B.A. From Brooklyn College and DMD from Tufts University. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on various prosthodontic topics. He has been visiting faculty at the LD Pankey Institute, Scottsdale Center for Dentistry and co-founder of the Massad Center for Higher Learning.Dr. Lobel is a life member of the ADA, fellow of American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists, OKU, Pierre Fauchard Academy, International Academy of Facial Dental Esthetics and Academy of Dental Science .He has achieved the Dean’s Award for Clinical Teaching three times as a member of the Department of Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry. Currently serving as Associate Clinical Professor and Practice Coordinator in the Department of Comprehensive Care. Dr. Lobel has also been in private practice for the past forty one years and on the TUSDM Faculty for fifteen years.
Patrick McGarry, D.M.D. Dr. McGarry received his DMD Degree from Tufts in 1983 and his Masters in Healthcare Administration in 2008 from New England College. Dr. McGarry served from 1988-2000 in the Department of Restorative Dentistry. Taking time to raise a family he returned to the Tufts faculty in 2011 as a Practice Coordinator for the Arlington Group in the Department of Comprehensive Care. He is or has been a member of the American Dental Association, Maine Dental Association, American Academy of Gold Foil Operators, Academy of General Dentistry, International Association of Dental Research, American Association of Implantology and the American Osteogenisi Imperfecta Society. Dr. McGarry attained Fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry in early 2000. He has published and lectured on various topics in New England and the United States.
McQueen PhotoDr. Michael E McQueen is Assistant Professor in Comprehensive Care and a Practice Coordinator. He received his D.M.D. degree from the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine and participated in a General Practice Residency at Boston City Hospital. Dr. McQueen maintained a private practice in Acton, MA. for 23 years and was the Dental Director of the Upham’s Corner Health Center and most recently Group Practice Leader at Boston University School of Dental Medicine. He returns to Tufts Dental School in his role as Practice Coordinator which he held from 2011-2013.
Carole A. Palmer Ed.D., RD, LD is Professor and Head of the Division of Nutrition in the Department of Comprehensive Care.Dr. Palmer is a native of the Boston area, having been raised in Malden and Winchester. She received her undergraduate degree in nutrition at Simmons College, her Masters’ degree/ Dietetic Internship at Tufts University and the New England Medical Center Hospital (now Tufts Medical Center), and her Doctorate in Educational Policy, Planning, and Administration at Boston University.In addition to her full time position at the dental school, Dr. Palmer is also Professor and Head of the Master’s Degree component of the Frances Stern Combined Dietetic Internship Master’s program at Tufts’ Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Adjunct Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine, Department of Public Health and Staff Nutritionist at the Frances Stern Nutrition Center of Tufts Medical Center.Dr. Palmer’s primary research emphasis has been the study of relationships between diet and/or nutrition, and oral conditions and effectively communication of these issues to professionals and the public. She is also a leader in developing models for implementing nutrition care in clinical dental settings. Her current interests are in nutrition and early childhood caries, teacher training for faculty and students, and Interprofessional Education (IPE). She is active in the American Dental Education Association, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and American Association of Clinical Nutrition. She currently serves as chair of the New Hampshire Board of Licensed Dietitians, the state licensing board for nutrition professionals.She has written extensively in the professional and lay literature, has consulted widely on nutrition and oral health issues, has appeared frequently on radio, television, and in print media, and is completing the third edition of her acclaimed textbook: Palmer, C; Boyd L. Diet and Nutrition in Oral Health.She lives along the beautiful Contoocook River in Concord, NH with her husband and four fur babies: Zoe, Lola, Snowy, and Muchacho!!!!!
Ellen Patterson, MD, MA is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Comprehensive Care and TUSDM’s Director of Interprofessional Education. Dr. Patterson graduated from the combined BA/MD program at Boston University School of Medicine and completed her residency in adult psychiatry at the University of Vermont. She previously worked in private psychiatric practice in Maine, and received an M.A. in Health Communication from Emerson College in 2011. Her interests include patient-provider communication, shared medical decision-making, and innovative health education strategies to promote collaborative care.
David S. Paul, D.M.D.Dr. David Paul is an Associate Professor and has been a faculty member since 1990, first in the Dept. of Operative & Prosthodontics, and since 1999 as a Practice Coordinator in the Dept. of Comprehensive Care.He is a native of Lexington, MA and earned his BA from Ohio Wesleyan University. Dr. Paul received his D.M.D. from Tufts in 1989, before completing a General Practice Residency at Boston City Hospital, and then maintained a practice in Concord, Massachusetts. He holds memberships in the American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Society and the American Association of Dental Education.Dr. Paul is active in International Public Heath, having lectured both nationally and internationally. He volunteers much of his time, serving those in need. To date he has led more than fifteen Medical/Dental teams into some of the poorest, and most underserved countries, such as Haiti, Nicaragua, Zambia, and the Dominican Republic. Since 2005 Dr. Paul has served on the Board of Directors for Help Mercy International, and has also directed the dental school’s component of the Nicaragua Community Service Learning Experience. He is currently working with the Nashoba Valley Rotary to help build a mobile dental clinic that will serve the rural San Felipi area in the Dominican Republic.
Ronald Perry, D.M.D., M.S. Dr. Perry is a Professor and Director of the International Student Program in Comprehensive Care. He has worked at TUSDM for over 25 years and since 1998, has served as the Director of the Gavel Center for Restorative Dental Research. Dr. Perry received a Master of Science at TUSDM and has worked with an extensive list of corporations to the benefit of TUSDM’s research program. In addition to his extensive academic/research activities, he has built and owned two private practices. Along the way and over the years, he has mentored dozens of predoctoral, postdoctoral and international students. Dr. Perry has been responsible for ensuring the compliance with Good Clinical Practices in all research projects. He has been actively seeking funding from sponsors for on-going and future studies for students and larger clinical studies. He is involved in clinical studies and monitor spending from restorative research study accounts and work with Restorative Research Coordinators and/or other TUSDM administrators to maintain study goals and budgets. Dr. Perry also has the responsibility of authoring and/or co-authoring journal articles, publishing research findings, developing protocols and bringing positive publicity to TUSDM.
Kathryn Ragalis, D.M.D., M.S.Dr. Kathryn Ragalis is an Associate Professor, a Practice Coordinator and Chair of the Ethics, Professionalism and Citizenship Committee. She is a graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Post-graduate education includes a Fellowship in Rehabilitation Dentistry at the University of Washington and a Master of Science Degree in Dental Public Health from Boston University. Dr. Ragalis has practiced general dentistry part-time and contributed chapters for 4 editions of the text Clinical Practice of the Dental Hygienist, and for the text The Fearful Dental Patient: A Guide to Understanding and Management.
Dara Rogers, D.M.D. is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Practice Coordinator for Group Clarendon. Dr. Rogers is a native of Philadelphia, PA and first came to Massachusetts for her Bachelors of Science from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. She received her DMD at Tufts University, School of Dental Medicine in 1990. Dr. Rogers opened the doors to her own practice shortly after graduation and still maintains that practice in Swampscott, Massachusetts. She was part of the faculty at Tufts Dental School as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Operative Dentistry after graduation until 1998. She left teaching to stay closer to home while she raised her 3 daughters and is thrilled to back at Tufts University to continue her passion for teaching. Dr. Rogers is a member of The American Association for Women Dentists, The Academy of General Dentistry, The North Shore Periodontal Prosthetics Study Club, and The American Association of University Women.
Dr. SaksenaYun Saksena B.D.Sc., M.M.Sc., D.M.D., is a board-eligible prosthodontist and Associate Professor.  She earned her certificate in prosthodontics and Masters degree from Harvard University, and D.M.D. from Tufts.  Her original dental degree was from The University of Melbourne, Australia.  Dr. Saksena joined the Tufts faculty in 2000.  In 2006, she won the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching.  She served as course director for Removable Partial Dentures and taught pre-clinical Fixed Prosthodontics and all facets of prosthodontics in the pre-doctoral clinic, prior to her current role as Lead Practice Coordinator for the 4th floor clinic.  Dr. Saksena is an active member of ADEA, serving as Chair of the Special Interest Group on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and on the Post-doctoral Application Support Service (PASS) Task Force.  Dr. Saksena mentors in the ADEA Academic Dental Careers Fellowship Program (ADCFP) and is the faculty advisor for the Tufts Student Chapter of ADEA.  Her research interests are in educational research, student life and admissions.  She enjoys helping with outreach events for pre-dental students from disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented minorities.  Dr. Saksena is most interested in helping students fulfil their potentials.  She was inducted into the Robert R. Andrews Research Honor Society at Tufts for her exceptional commitment to mentoring students.
Alberto Sarmiento, D.D.S. Dr. Alberto Sarmiento is an Assistant Clinical Professor working in the undergraduate dental clinic as Practice Coordinator for Group Practice Berkeley. He received his DDS degree from the Metropolitan University in Barranquilla Colombia and he also completed two years in Advance Education in General Dentistry at the University of Connecticut. Currently he is practicing at Tufts Dental Associate Faculty Practice as general dentist part time. Dr. Sarmiento is an active member of the American Dental Association and the Massachusetts Hispanic Dental Association. In his spare time Dr. Sarmiento enjoys traveling around the country, going to the movies and watching the Red Sox.
Sam Shames, D.M.D., M.A.G.D. is the Director of Practice Management after serving for over ten years as Assistant Clinical Professor for the Restorative Department.He received his D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, and his M.A.G.D. from the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Shames practiced for twenty years on Newbury St. in Boston; and has developed and opened over twenty five multi-specialty group practices in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He is the managing partner of the Gentle Dental Partners of New England, which consists of a network of over 100 dentists practicing in New England. This has given Dr. Shames extensive experience in dental leasehold improvements, lease negotiation, partnership agreements, practice purchases, and associate relationships. In his career, he has lectured nationally on practice management, emphasizing an equity sharing multispecialty group practice model. Dr. Shames is a corporate member of Delta Dental and serves on their professional advisory committee.
Denisa Stasa, D.M.D. Dr. Stasa is a Assistant Clinical Professor and Practice Coordinator for Group 2.  She earned her B.S. degree from Simmons College and her D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Before joining Tufts University, Dr. Stasa worked as a general dentist in a private practice in Quincy, MA and Codman Health Center in Dorchester, MA.
Paul L. Trombly, D.M.D.Dr. Paul Trombly is an Associate Clinical Professor and has been a Practice Coordinator for 8 years. He received a BS in psychology from Syracuse University, an MA in physiology from Ball State University and his DMD from here at Tufts. His post graduate education included a 1 year GPR at Coler Memorial Hospital in New York City. He received a Certificates from the New York University School of Dentistry in the “Clinical Diagnosis and Management of TMD” and “Advanced Program in Orofacial Pain Management”. He is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management. He maintains Private Practices in Somerset, Massachusetts and on Block Island, Rhode Island.
Karen Wallach, D.M.D.Dr. Karen Wallach is an Associate Clinical Professor and a Practice Coordinator.Dr. Wallach has been a member of the dental faculty since 1985. Dr. Wallach earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Barnard College, New York, a Master’s Degree from Columbia University and earned her DMD Degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Wallach is the Faculty Advisor for the Smile Squad, a student outreach group that teaches about dental health in community outreach locations and a Faculty Advisor for Delta Sigma Delta, an international dental fraternity. Prior to becoming a Practice Coordinator in 2003, Dr. Wallach was a general dentist at the North End Community Health Center for 16 years.

Dr. Peter Arsenault, D.M.D. Dr. Peter Arsenault, Associate Clinical Professor and Head of the Division of Operative Dentistry, is a graduate of The University of Massachusetts where he received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in plastics engineering, 1986 and 1989 respectively along with a minor in chemistry. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1994. Upon graduation, Dr. Arsenault completed a General Practice Residency at Tufts New England Medical Center and then went on to private practice where he owns and operates his practice. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts dental Society and the Society of Plastics Engineers along with the Society of Materials Engineers. Dr. Arsenault has shown great interest in product development and intellectual property law. He holds several United States Patents and patent pending products relating to the dental field. Dr. Arsenault has taught at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine since 2005.
A. Lichelle Aldana, D.D.S. Dr. Aldana is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Comprehensive Care. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Texas Christian University, a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas in 1993, and a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Regent University. A firm believer in continuing education, she has also been awarded the Mastership from the Academy of General Dentistry, a prestigious honor and evidence of her commitment to lifelong learning in dental science and clinical knowledge. Dr. Aldana has maintained a private practice in Salem, MA since 1997. She also currently serves in the United States Army Reserves as an officer in the Army Dental Corps.
Boris Bacanurschi, D.M.D. Dr. Boris Bacanurschi, DMD is an Assistant Clinical Professor in Operative Dentistry Division of Comprehensive Care Department. He received his BS from University of Toronto and his Magna Cum Laude DMD degree from Tufts in 2006. Upon graduation he joined Dr. John Meade’s (D’56) private practice in Medford. Dr. Bacanurschi started to teach in 2008 as a clinical volunteer instructor. He served as a Chair of North Metropolitan Dental District. He is a member of ICD, OKU, ADA, MDS, ADEA, Tufts Tisch Faculty Fellow. He volunteers on St Boniface, St Rock’s and GSL dental mission trips to Haiti and Dominican Republic.

David N. Bardwell, D.M.D. Dr. David Bardwell is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Comprehensive Care, Division of Operative Dentistry, is a 1985 Graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine where he received his D.M.D. degree. He also did his Postgraduate training at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine receiving his Masters in Dental Science (research) in 1999. He maintains a Private Practice in North Andover, MA in restorative and esthetic dentistry in addition to his collegial responsibilities at Tufts. He is a Fellow in the American and International College of Dentists as well as the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Bardwell has and continues to conduct Dental Research in the area of Dental Biomaterials.
Laurence B. Barron, D.M.D. Dr. Laurence Barron is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Operative Division of the Department of Comprehensive Care. Dr. Barron earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and his D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Prior to coming to Tufts as a faculty member, Dr. Barron served in the public sector with the Department of Veterans Affairs for over twenty-five years. Dr. Barron spent his last six years in the VA as Chief, Dental Service at the Providence VA Medical Center. While with the VA, Dr. Barron held a faculty appointment at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. For the past three years Dr. Barron has participated in the Hispanic Student Dental Association Global Service Leadership Initiative Trips to the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena Dental School in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Michael J. Boschetti, D.M.D. Dr. Michael J. Boschetti received his Doctorate from Tufts University, School of Dental Medicine in 1983. He is a full time practitioner at his practice in Revere, Massachusetts and is a part time Clinical Instructor of Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry at Tufts. Dr. Boschetti has received an Advanced Degree in CEREC Restorations and is a Northeast Regional Trainer for Patterson Dental, training doctors in the use of CEREC® CAD/CAM technology. Dr. Boschetti is a past Chairman and current Treasurer of the North Metropolitan District of the Massachusetts Dental Society.
Frank Chow, D.M.D. Dr. Frank Chow is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Operative Division of the Department of Comprehensive Care. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto (’93). He is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry (’97). He finished is AEGD at the University of Rochester Eastman Dental Center (’99).
Alice Cheng, DDS, FAGD Dr. Alice Cheng is a Clinical Instructor. She received her dental degree at Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine in New York, and stayed on to complete a General Practice Residency there as well. In addition to teaching at Tufts, Dr. Cheng maintains her private practice, South Shore Smiles, in Braintree, MA. Dr. Cheng is a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, and an active member of the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society, and the Greater Boston chapter of the Seattle Study Club. When she is not practicing dentistry, Dr. Cheng enjoys traveling, cooking, snowboarding, and spending time with family and friends.
Thomas M. Cleary, D.M.D. Dr. Thomas M. Cleary is an Assistant Clinical Professor with the Department of Comprehensive Care, Division of Operative Dentistry, and is an Operative Practice Coordinator for Group Fairfield. He received his A.B. from The College of the Holy Cross and his D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He has had a private practice in Easthampton, Massachusetts, for more than 40 years, where he practices with his son, Thomas M. Cleary, Jr., D.D.S. He is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, treating patients with sleep apnea, and working toward Diplomate status.
Dean B. Cohen. D.M.D. Dr. Dean Cohen is an Assistant Clinical Professor who has been here at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine for almost 15 years. Dr. Cohen graduated from Syracuse University in 1981 with a B.S. in Biology & a B.A. in Psychology. In 1985, he graduated from Tufts Dental School with his DMD degree and then completed a Dental GPR at Western Mass. Hospital & Baystate Medical Center located in Springfield, Mass. Following his GPR, Dr. Cohen served in the US Navy Dental Corps as a Lieutenant at Long Beach Naval Station in Long Beach California. He received a Letter of Commendation from his Commanding Officer for outstanding dental service to our US Military. Dr. Cohen teaches in Preclinical Fixed & Removable Prosthodontics as well as in the Undergraduate Restorative Clinic. While in Private Practice for almost 25 years, Dr. Cohen earned his Fellowship and Mastership Awards from the Academy of General Dentistry.
Stephany Cordero, DM.D.Dr.Stephany Cordero is a Clinical Instructor for the Comprehensive Care Department, Division of Operative Dentistry. She received her first Dental Degree, D.M.D, from Pedro Henriquez Ureña University (UNPHU), School of Dental Medicine, in the Dominican Republic, in 2011. She was later accepted to Tufts University, where she completed the Esthetic Dentistry Fellowship Program in 2012. After graduation she went back to the Dominican Republic, and started teaching in the Undergrad Department at Pedro Henriquez Ureña University (UNPHU) and also practiced in private practice for 2 years. In 2014 she moved back to Boston, and volunteered as a faculty for the Esthetics Department in the Postgraduate Department. In 2015 she started teaching as a Clinical Instructor in the Operative Department and in the Esthetics Department.
Carolyn Cottrell, D.D.S. Dr. Cottrell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Comprehensive Care. Dr. Cottrell is a native of Charleston, W.Va. She received her BS in Biology from Central State University, and a DDS from Oklahoma College of Dentistry. Dr. Cottrell was in private practice in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, upon her return to the United States she served as a dentist to incarcerated teens in Massachusetts while in private practice. Dr. Cottrell began teaching at Tufts in 1994, where she is a Clinical Professor and lectures Forensic Dentistry and Biological Terrorism. She has lectured nationally and internationally. Dr. Cottrell has been a volunteer for mission trips to Haiti and Dominican Republic. She is a member of the Tufts Faculty Governance Senate, and Faculty Advisory Committee, The American Association of University Professors, American Dental Society, Diplomat American College of Forensic Examiners, American Society of Forensic Odontology, Pierre Fauchard Academy, Vice President of 21st Century Study Club, Fellow Dean Robertson Society, Academy of Operative Dentistry, Massachusetts, New England, New Hampshire Dental Societies, and Oklahoma Dental Society. Dr. Cottrell has Professional Certification NCIC (FBI coding for missing and unidentified persons) AFIC (Armed Forces Mass Identification).

Ronald Davitt, D.D.S.Dr. Davitt is Clinical Instructor in the Department of Comprehensive Care, Division of Operative Dentistry. He is a native of Newburyport, Massachusetts where he practiced dentistry for 25 years. Dr. Davitt received his BS degree in mathematics and chemistry in 1978 and then taught junior high school science and math in Oklahoma City for two years. He then worked for a Burlington, Massachusetts high tech company as a software engineer for three years. In 1987 Dr. Davitt received his DDS from the University of Texas Dental School San Antonio. He then joined his father in private practice in Newburyport. Dr. Davitt began teaching as a volunteer at Tufts in December of 2014.
Frank DeCaro, D.M.D.
Flaviano DiFalco, DDScDr. Flaviano DiFalco received his DDS degree from Seton Hall College of Dentistry (now Rutgers). He is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Comprehensive Care who teaches in Pre-Clinical Dental Anatomy, Operative Dentistry, Full Dentures and Implant Dentures and is an Instructor in Restorative Dentistry in the Undergraduate Clinics, as well as meeting with his Mentoring Groups from various classes. Dr. DiFalco is always ready to answer questions and/or demonstrate techniques to help students realize their full potential as they develop into capable, caring, conscientious clinicians. Dr. DiFalco is a Life Member of the ADA who has been very active in the Massachusetts Dental Society as Delegate to Annual Meetings and as Chairperson of the South Shore District. He has been an Associate Member of the American Academy of Periodontology and an active member of the Academy of General Dentistry, having served the Massachusetts Chapter of the AGD as Editor and later President while earning His Fellowship and Mastership Awards.

Yashar Farahvash DMD, PharmD Dr. Farahvash received a PharmD from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2010. He then conducted clinical research and had a poster presentation and publication. Dr. Farahvash earned his DMD from Boston University Henry Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2014. He has maintained private practice full time in Waltham, MA. Dr. Farahvash joined Tufts faculty as a volunteer Clinical Instructor at Operative Department. He is a member of American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Society and Academy of General Dentistry.
Joanne M. Falzone, D.M.D. Dr. Joanne M. Falzone is honored to be a faculty member in her Alma Mater. She was in the class of D’80. After spending many years in Private Practice, she came to TUSDM in 1996. She teaches in most of the Pre-clinical courses; she has Directed Dental Anatomy/Cranio-Facial Function1 for almost 10 years. She is a Fellow in both the American and International Colleges of Dentistry. Dr. Falzone is on the Tufts Dental Alumni Board of Directors; is a member on many of the Standing Committees in the school; is the faculty Advisor for ASDA, and has mentored her students for many years. She has won the Dean’s Award for Excellence in teaching several times. Dr. Falzone is referred to by most of her students as “MaMa Falzone”- a name she is proud to be called!

Ralph R Fowler, D.D.S. Dr. Fowler is a Clinical Professor in the Operative Division. Dr. Fowler earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Boston College and a D.D.S. from Georgetown University. He has been a Tufts faculty member since 1977. He was in private practice in Merrimac, MA for 41 years.
Zina Gambacorta, D.M.D.
Judith Goldstein, D.M.D., M.S. Dr. Goldstein is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Operative Division of the Department of Comprehensive Care. She has been a Tufts faculty member since 1991. She received her D.M.D. and M.S. degree from Semmelweis Medical University in Budapest, Hungary, where she was a Clinical Instructor and worked in the Metropolitan Dental Center. She also graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine International Dental Program. She owned a General Practice with her husband in Stoughton, MA, where she still maintains part- time work. She is active member of ADA, MDA, and Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity. She has received numerous awards for Excellence as a Teacher and Dental Educator.
Maria E. Gonzalez, DMD Dr. Gonzalez is an Assistant Clinical Professor of the Department of Comprehensive Care. Dr. Gonzalez is native of Caracas, Venezuela, where she earned her dental degree in 2000 from Universidad Central de Venezuela, and completed with honors a specialized training in Periodontics in 2004. After moving to Boston in 2004, Dr. Gonzalez joined Tufts University School of Dental Medicine as faculty member. Dr. Gonzalez earned her DMD from Tufts University in 2009 and completed the Implant Residency at Tufts University in 2011. She has been associate co director of Dental Anatomy/Cranio-Facial Function 1. She is a member on many of the Standing Committees in the school. Dr. Gonzalez maintains her private practice, Beacon Hill Dental Associates, in the heart of Boston. She dedicates and focuses her practice on reconstructive periodontal surgery, implant therapy and restorative treatments. Dr. Gonzalez is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society and American Academy of Periodontology. Outside the office, she loves yoga, snowboarding and cooking. She lives with her husband, Dr. Luis Del Castillo, and two daughters, Emiliana and Victoria, in Winchester MA and supports the local community in a variety of ways.
Herbert Ho-Kuen Hau, M.Sc., Ph.D., D.M.D Dr. Hau is an Associate Clinincal Professor at TUSDM. He received a M.Sc. Degree in Physical Chemistry from Kansas State College at Pittsburg, KS. , a Ph.D. in X-Ray Crystallography from Boston University and a D.M.D. (cum laude) from Harvard School of Dental Medicine. From 1970 to 1972, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow under the NIDR (National Institute of Dental Research) grant and was one of the authors to publish the crystal structure of stannous fluoride; the earlier caries prevention compound in toothpaste. From 1972 to 1973, he was assistant professor of chemistry at Boston University. From 1977 to 1982, he practiced in the community health center in Boston Chinatown, and as the co-dental director in 1981-1982. In 1982, he opened a private practice in Boston Chinatown which was closed, after 30 years, in 2012. He held teaching appointments at 2 dental schools in Boston: from 1977 to 1986, in the D.A.U. department of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine; from 1978 to present, in the Operative Division of the Tufts School of Dental Medicine. Since 2004, he has been working in the CDCA (the Commission on Dental Comprehensive Assessment), formerly known as NERB, in the capacities as examiner and captain. He is presently an officer in the New England Dental Society.
Elissa Heard, D.M.D. After graduating Tufts Dental School, Dr. Heard completed a GPR and directed a children’s dental clinic in Portland, Maine. She then returned to the Boston area and established a dental practice in Quincy. She has participated actively in the Massachusetts Dental Society and was a member of the 3M CID Program. After 25 years she has shifted gears and is working with dental students as they develop their skills in the undergraduate clinic.
Melissa Ing, DMD Dr. Ing is an Associate Professor in the Comprehensive Care Department Division of Operative Dentistry. After graduating from Tufts SDM she started a dental practice in Rocky Hill, CT and at the same time started teaching in the Dept. of Restorative Dentistry at UCONN School of Dental Medicine. Later on she became Team Leader for the Pre-Doctoral Clinics and eventually, Director for their Pre-Doctoral Clinics. While at UCONN she was nominated for the Kaiser Permanente Award for Teaching Excellence numerous times and was the recipient of this award in 1998 and 2011. In 2011 Dr. Ing returned to teach at Tufts and is very much enjoying her time within the Division of Operative Dentistry. She is currently Course Director for the Introduction to Clinical Dental Materials Year 3 course and puts together several caries workshops and lectures for IDP I and II. In 2015 she was the recipient of the national ADEA Excellence in Teaching Award and she was also nominated by the students for the Tufts Teaching with Technology Award. She enjoys all the facets of her Comprehensive Care Dept. & the privilege and honor of working with multi-talented faculty with her course work, research, video and extracurricular projects.
Donna Levy Kalil, D.M.D. Dr. Donna Kalil is a Clinical Instructor. She graduated from Tufts Dental School in 1986 with her husband Kenneth Kalil D-86 and started a private practice in Nashua, NH. Dr. Kalil is a full-time general dentist at the office of Kalil & Kress, PA., which she established over 26 years ago. She also started a satellite office in Windham, NH with her husband Dr. Kenneth Kalil. Dr. Donna Kalil is involved in the Nashua community volunteering as a dentist for a local non-profit clinic of which she served as President for over 10 years. She is a member of the International College of Dentists, American Dental Association, and is currently serving as Treasurer of the Greater Nashua Dental Society. Both of her children are following in their parent’s footsteps. Her daughter, Michelle, is in the class of D-19 at Tufts Dental School and her son, Andrew, also plans to attend dental school.
Peter S. Katz, D.M.D. Dr. Katz was appointed in 2009 as an Assistant Clinical Professor formerly in the Prosthetics and Operative Dentistry Department and now in the Comprehensive Care Department. He graduated the University of Connecticut with a BA in English. He is a graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine Class of 1974. Upon graduating from Tufts, Dr. Katz served in the United States Public Health Service for three years as the Chief Dental Officer in the Federal Correctional Institution in Englewood, Colorado. Subsequently, in 1977, Dr. Katz went into private practice in West Hartford, Connecticut where he continues to practice full time. In addition to his private practice and volunteering at Tufts Dental, Dr. Katz has been an active member of the Connecticut State Dental Commission since 2005.

Daniel W. Lee, D.M.D.Dr. Lee, Assistant Clinical Professor, received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Oklahoma Baptist University and his Master degree in Biophysics from Boston University before switching his life career to Dentistry from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (D78). Dr. Lee has been a faculty member at Tufts since 1984. He was a staff dentist at South Cove Community Health Center and served in the airport at Logan Dental Center for many years. Besides maintaining his current private practices in Boston and Lexington, Dr. Lee has also been a visiting dentist to the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Malawi (in Africa), and the Republic of Moldova (a former Soviet State), working in conjunction with nonprofit organizations such as World Relief.

Linda R. Marinello, D.M.D. Dr. Marinello is an Assistant Clinical Professor. After working for twelve years as a Dental Hygienist, she went on to receive her DMD from Tufts in 1996. Dr. Marinello maintains a private practice for General Dentistry in Brookline, Ma, where she has allowed several students to shadow her before beginning school at Tufts and BU. You might also see her rowing on the Charles River early mornings before clinic.

Alex A. Miele, D.M.D. Dr. Miele is a Clinical Instructor and Operative PC for Groups Charlestown and Dorchester. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology with a minor in Italian Studies from Boston University and his D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1983. When not teaching at Tufts, he practices General Dentistry between offices in Methuen and Norwood, Massachusetts.

Shubha Nanda, D.M.D. Dr. Nanda is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Comprehensive Care. Prior to receiving her D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Nanda received her B.D.S. and M.D.S. (Prosthodontics) from Nair Hospital Dental College, Bombay University. She has been a provider for in-house geriatric dental care at various nursing homes in New England for the past 17 years. Her fields of interest include Geriatric Dentistry and Dental Ethics.
Eduardo J. Olegario, DMD Dr. Olegario is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Comprehensive Care, Division of Operative Dentistry, and is an Operative/Practice Coordinator for Group Back Bay. He has been teaching at Tufts since 1999. He graduated with his B.A. in Biology at Rutgers University and received his D.M.D. at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1995. He has a private practice in Dartmouth, MA. Some know him Lieutenant Colonel Olegario. LTC Olegario is the current Commander of the 455th Dental Company, Fort Devens, MA. He joined the Army Reserve in 2001. He’s been deployed to Iraq in 2003 and Kosovo in 2010. Dr. Olegario is a member of the ADA, MDS and ADEA.
Anthony Paolucci, D.M.D.
Aikaterini Papathanasiou, D.M.D. Dr. Papathanasiou graduated from University of Athens – Dental School (Greece) in 1995. In 1996, she received her Postgraduate Certificate in Operative Dentistry, Endodontics and Cariology from Aarhus University – Royal Dental College (Denmark). She continued her postgraduate training at Tufts University – School of Dental Medicine (Boston, USA) and received her Postgraduate Certificate of Advanced Education in Esthetic Dentistry in 1997. Dr. Papathanasiou also received her DMD from Tufts University in 2016. From 1998 until 2003, Dr. Papathanasiou was a full-time faculty member at Department of Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, teaching Pre-Doctoral and Post-Doctoral students and conducting research. In 2006, she became an Adjunct Associate Professor, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and she maintained the title until 2013, when she returned in a full-time faculty position. Currently, Dr. Papathanasiou is the Director of the Advanced Graduate Esthetics and Operative Dentistry Program in the Department of Prosthodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She is also a Visiting Lecturer for the Continuing Dental Education Programs at New York University College of Dentistry (New York, NY), since 2007. She has conducted multiple research projects and has numerous publications in peer reviewed dental journals. She lectures and gives hands-on workshops nationally and internationally on Tooth Whitening and Esthetic Dentistry. She is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (ICD) and the International Academy for Dental and Facial Esthetics (IADFE). She is the Editor in Chief of the greek dental journal “Esthetic Dentistry and Implantology”. She is also part of the Editorial Team of REALITY ESTHETICS (REALITY Publishing Company) and the Editorial Review Board of Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry (jCD). Dr. Papathanasiou maintained, for many years, a private practice limited to Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry in Athens, Greece.
Shivani Patel, D.M.D.Dr. Patel is a Clinical Instructor and Operative Practice Coordinator for Group 2. She earned her B.A. in Developmental Psychology at Tufts University and D.M.D from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She earned both degrees through Tufts University’s 7 year accelerated BA/DMD program. Before joining Tufts University, Dr. Stasa worked as a general dentist in a private practice in Amherst, NH and had her own private practice in Methuen, MA.
Katerina Blahkman Pellino, D.M.D.
Brendan Prindiville, D.M.D.Dr. Prindiville is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Operative Dentistry. He has been a member of the Tufts Operative Department since 2009. He graduated from Brown University with a BA in American Literature in 1999, and then went on to receive his DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2006. Following graduation, Dr. Prindiville spent 2 years in residency at Yale New Haven and St. Raphael’s Hospitals in New Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Prindiville has practiced in both Cambridge and Wellesley Massachusetts and remains an active member of both the American Dental Association and the Massachusetts Dental Society. Dr. Prindiville’s father David Prindiville DMD TUSDM 1972 works in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department.
Frank Y. Shin, D.M.D. Frank Shin, D.M.D. is Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Comprehensive Care at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He lives in Andover, Mass. He received his BS degree from the University of Southern California and his DMD degree from Boston University. Dr. Shin has been teaching at the Tufts School of Dental Medicine since 2007. Dr. Shin was presented with the Dean’s Award in Clinical Teaching at Tufts in 2011. He maintains his private dental practice in Boston. Dr. Shin has participated in several dental mission trips with groups of Tufts dental students to various countries including Ecuador, Mexico, and Dominican Republic.
Nina Raeison, D.M.D.
John Ricci, D.M.D. Dr. John R Ricci is a Clinical Instructor of Operative Dentistry for Group Exeter. Born in Johnston, Rhode Island, he received his BS from Providence College in 1980, and graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1983. Dr. Ricci has grown and maintained a private practice in Rhode Island for over 30 years. In 2013, Dr. Ricci began teaching in the preclinical curriculum, and now volunteers one day per week on the fourth floor. He believes strongly in providing patients with the highest caliber of care, and always performing procedures, “as if it is a family member in the chair”. This is something he teaches to each and every student that he has the pleasure of working with. His son Eric is a member of the Tufts D17 class.

Laurice Salib-Fanikos, D.M.D.
Paul S. Shamirian, D.M.D. Dr. Paul Shamirian is from Cranston, RI. He received his BA degree from Boston University in 1978 and DMD degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1981. Dr. Shamirian joined the faculty in 2009 as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Comprehensive Care. He also works in private practice in Rhode Island.
Anthony R. Silvestri, Jr., D.M.D. Dr. Silvestri graduated in 1972 from the College of Dentistry in New Jersey. In 1975, he became a full-time instructor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine; he directed the Dental Anatomy and Occlusion course for 35 years and currently holds an appointment as Clinical Professor in the Department of Comprehensive Care. Dr. Silvestri focuses his teaching efforts in the Division of Operative Dentistry. He also teaches other restorative courses in Simulated Patient Care. Dr. Silvestri has authored numerous scholarly articles in peer-reviewed dental publications. He has been cited in National Geographic magazine, The New York Times and The Discovery Channel for his research involving the prevention of wisdom tooth development.
Iqbal Singh, D.M.D.
Poonam Soi, D.M.D. Dr. Soi is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Comprehensive Care. She received her Bachelors of Science from Seattle University in 2006 and graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2010. After receiving her D.M.D, she gained advanced training in restorative dentistry through a General Practice Residency at New York Medical College. Dr. Soi is dedicated to participating in continuing education courses to stay current with the latest treatments and minimally invasive techniques. She is a member of the American Dental Association and Massachusetts Dental Society. Dr. Soi currently practices dentistry at a private practice in South Boston.
Curtis W. Stathis, D.M.D.
Sheldon M. Sullaway, D.M.D. Dr. Sullaway is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Operative Division of the Dept. of Comprehensive Care. He has been on the faculty since 1998. He received his B.S. from Bates College and D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He had an internship in Oral Medicine at the Western Massachusetts Hospital followed by 2 years on active duty as a Dental Officer in the U.S. Air Force. He was in private practice as a general dentist for 33 years, and is a member of the American Dental Association.
William T. Sylvia, Jr., D.M.D.
T. Sona Tacvorian, D.M.D. Dr. Sona Tacvorian is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Operative Division of the Department of Comprehensive Care. She graduated at the top of her class from the Carol Davila Institute of Medicine and Stomatology in Bucharest, Romania. In September of 1986 with an MD/DMD degree. She practiced for 3 years at the Center for Advancement in Dentistry in Ploiesti, Romania. In December of 1989 she moved to Boston with her family. She started the Advanced Standing Program at the Boston University Goldman School of Graduate Dentistry in August of 1990, and Graduated early , in September of 1992. Dr. Tacvorian was the president of the Advanced Standing Class of 1992. she has worked as an associate in private practices in Brookline and Cambridge. Since October of 1999, Dr. Tacvorian has maintained her own private practice in Waltham, Massachusetts focusing on Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Tacvorian is a member of the American Dental Association Massachusetts Dental Society, and the Armenian American Dental Association. She has been a volunteer with the Operative division at Tufts since 1999.
Mary Catherine (“Katie”) Talmo, DMD Dr. Talmo is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Comprehensive Care. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Amherst College in 2003. In 2010 she graduated summa cum laude from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She is a member of the American Dental Association as well as the Massachusetts Dental Society. She is a fellow of the International College of Dentists. Dr. Talmo participates in a number of dental outreach programs, serving as Advisory Committee Chair to the Somerville High School Career and Technical Education’s Dental Assisting Program. As a faculty member, she has also traveled to the Dominican Republic as a part of the Tufts Hispanic Student Dental Association’s Global Service Learning Trip. Dr. Talmo is a resident of Medford, MA and maintains a private practice in Somerville, MA.
James W. Theodore, D.M.D. Dr. Theodore is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Operative Division, Department of Comprehensive Care. Dr. Theodore earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Boston College and his D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1983. He maintains a part-time practice in Norwood, Massachusetts where he has been for the last 33 years. Dr. Theodore also serves as the Dental Member for Dental Malpractice in Middlesex and Suffolk Superior Courts.
Priyadarshini Trikha , B.D.S, M.H.A, D.D.S Dr. Trikha is an international dental graduate from India who graduated from Ragas Dental College, Chennai in 2002, has a Masters in Health Care Administration from University of New Haven graduated in 2005 and a D.D.S from New York University School of Dentistry in 2008. After her graduation she ran a health center as the youngest dental director followed by opening of several practices with her husband with whom practices part time and while volunteering as a clinical instructor at Tufts for the past 4 years.
Robert Urbon, DMD Dr. Urbon is a Clinical Professor with over forty-five years on Tufts Dental faculty. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a B.A. and continued to Tufts School of Dental Medicine, earning his D.M.D. in 1970. After graduation, he completed a postdoctoral year at Philadelphia General Hospital, a University of Pennsylvania teaching hospital. In 1971, he established a new dental practice and was in private practice for approximately twenty-five years. He has been a consultant examiner to the CDCA (formally NERB) since 2004 and is currently actively administrating approximately ten to twelve exams a year throughout the country. Dr. Urbon currently holds the title of certified dental consultant and is with Northeast Delta Dental as a dental consultant. Current and past associates include Fellow American College of Dentists, Fellow Academy of General Dentistry, Delta Sigma Delta, OKU, and Pierre Fauchard Academy amongst others.
Angelo E. Vangos, D.M.D. Angelo E. Vangos, D.M.D., Assistant Clinical Professor earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the College of the Holy Cross and his D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Prior to coming to Tufts, Dr. Vangos was in Private Practice for 30 years in Worcester, Mass.
David J. Ward, D.M.D.
Sarah Han White, D.M.D. Dr. Sarah Han White is an instructor in Pre-Clinical Operative Dentistry. She graduated from Cornell University majoring in Mathematics. She earned her D.M.D. degree from Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. She was inducted to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the National Dental Honor Society. She completed Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Center, University of Rochester.
Dr. E Leo Whitworth Jr. DDS, MBA Dr. Whitworth is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Operative Department. Prior to coming to Tufts Dr. Whitworth migrated from Kingston Jamaica and receive a bachelor of science degree from Northeastern University in Boston. He received his DDS degree from Howard University in Washington DC and his MBA from Northeastern University. He returned to Jamaica and became the Chief Dental Director at the St Ann’s Bay Hospital. He returned to the USA and opened dental practices in Mattapan, Jamaica Plain and Falmouth Mass. He accepted an appointment at Harvard Dental School as an Assistant Clinical professor in their restorative department. He is also a member of Harvard’s Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Dr. Whitworth also serves as a member on Northeastern University corporate board.
Sheldon L. Yunes, D.D.S. Dr. Sheldon L. Yunes, Clinical Instructor, received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from New York University College of Dentistry in New York City in 1971. To date, Dr. Yunes has been practicing in North Easton, Massachusetts for about 37 years. He has been a dental consultant staff member at Cardinal Cushing General Hospital, Dental Advisor at Prudential Insurance, Associate Professor at Harvard Dental School. Dr. Yunes is also a member of the American Dental Society and recently received a prestigious 36 year pin. He is also an Emeritus in the Academy of General Dentistry where he received a fellowship (F.A.G.D.). Dr. Yunes also belongs to the South Shore Dental Society. Outside the office, Shelly enjoys horseback riding, golfing, and scuba diving. One of his favorite locations to scuba dive is Mexico because of the clear water and beautiful fish.
