Family Welcome Class of D2015

Class of D2015 Family Welcome Event

The tenth annual Family Welcome Day was held on August 30th at the Shubert Theater in downtown Boston. Tufts President Anthony Monaco brought greetings from the university to the entering students and their families. Dean Huw Thomas provided a formal welcome; Dr. Nancy Arbree gave an overview of the academic program; Assistant Professor Eileen Doherty and Catherine DeFuria, D12, gave an introduction of student research opportunities; Dr. James Hanley provided an introduction to the clinical experience; Dr. Noshir Mehta and Nicholas Gordon, D12, talked about community and public health initiatives; and Dr. Peter Delli Colli brought greetings from the Alumni Office. After the morning assembly, guests enjoyed lunch at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel on Tremont Street.

At the conclusion of lunch, the new students were brought to Merritt Auditorium at the Dental School to register for classes and attend orientation sessions. Their parents and family members enjoyed campus tours and participated in a panel discussion which featured parents and spouses of currently enrolled students, three enrolled students, one 2009 alumni, and three course directors. The day concluded with a welcome reception in the Alumni Lounge located on the 15th floor of the Dental School.

Approximately 500 people attended the event, including new students, family members, administrative staff, dignitaries and 48 orientation volunteers from the class of 2014.
