Consortium for Oral Health Research and Informatics

COHRI is excited to return to Boston for the 2012 summer meeting, co-hosted by the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. As the program takes shape, it promises to be exciting and educational. There will be lectures, grant-writing workshops and reports from workgroups. The Consortium for Oral Health Research and Informatics has as mission to:

• Create, standardize and integrate data using electronic health records
• Cooperate with other health related institutions to share data
• Improve informatics utilization in dental education, health care, and research
• Work together as a consortium to develop research projects to promote evidence based dentistry
• Define and facilitate the implementation of best practices and standards of care

Course Overview

This course will provide a current review of the most salient pathologies of the head and neck. Specifically, it will address common and challenging oral, salivary gland, nasopharyngeal and upper respiratory pathologies.
The teaching will focus on an interdisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancer and explain why this approach is critical for successful patient outcomes.

Educational Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Contrast the clinical presentation and diagnostic features of a variety of pathologies of the head and neck.
• Describe the salient histopathological features of common head and neck pathologies.
• Recall most commonly used current treatment modalities for head and neck cancer.
• Explain the impact of treatment on functional outcome of head and neck cancer patients.

Practicing Physicians and Residents in the field of Otolaryngology and/or head and neck pathology.
