Foreign Student Financial Aid

Foreign students are defined as those who are F1, J1 or H4 visa recipients who are otherwise not eligible for permanent residency in the United States. Students who are considered US citizens or Permanent Residents of the US may apply for need-based institutional grants and loans and federal student loans.  Foreign students enrolled in either the DMD or Dental International Student Program will be considered for Merit Scholarship and private education loan programs. Foreign students cannot receive other campus-based aid (Tufts Loan, HPSL, LDS, Federal Perkins Loan, or Tufts Grant), Federal Direct Loans, or Grad PLUS loans.

Merit scholarship awards are determined by the Office of Admissions and the Office of Student Affairs.  Scholarship amounts vary based on available funding and are determined by the Admissions Office and Office of Student Affairs.

Foreign students applying for a private education loan must supply a qualified U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U.S. as co-signer or primary borrower for the loan.  Private education loans are credit-based therefore both the borrower and co-borrower must meet the lender’s credit criteria.   Tufts University does not supply a co-signer for any borrower.
