Project Bridge gives TUSDM students the opportunity to volunteer in both education and direct dental care of at risk and homeless youth aged 14-24. Based on the Bridge Over Troubled Waters program, in service since 1970, Project Bridge offers comprehensive health, education, dental and housing services for its clients.
Students volunteer to participate in the dental education program once per month, after school. Opportunities include
Teaching GED classes
Running seminars on how to pursue careers in dentistry
Teaching oral hygiene promotion
We provide preventative and basic restorative care to clients, and treat approximately 5-7 patients per week. Our treatments include, but are not limited to
Comprehensive exams
Radiographs
Prophylaxis
Scaling and root planing
Pulpotomies
Restorations and sedative fillings
We welcome entering first-year dental students to participate in the educational portion of our program. Second years and experienced first years are welcome to come to our clinic, where they assist fellow third and fourth year students with dental treatment.
Clinic Hours: Tuesdays per month from 4:30-7:00 PM.
