Faculty Profiles

Department Chair

Robert Chapman, DMD graduated from Tufts University College of Liberal Arts with a BS in Biology in 1963, from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine as Doctor of Dental Medicine in 1967, and received his Certificate in Prosthodontics in 1974 also from Tufts. Dr. Chapman served for five years in the US Navy, first as an Intern in Dentistry at the Naval Hospital in Oakland, California, and then as Dental Officer in Australia, and Newport Rhode Island.

He joined the Tufts' faculty in 1974, and is currently Chairperson of the Department of Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry as well as being TUSDM Director of Informatics. He is a member of the International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists, American College of Prosthodontists, the American Academy of Dental Science, the International Association of Dental Research, American Dental Education Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society, and the American Dental Association.

Department Heads 

Nopsaran Chaimattayompol (Nui), DMD, MPH received his first dental degree, DDS, from Mahidol University of Dentistry, Thailand in 1994, earned his specialty certificate in Prosthoodontics in 1997 and fellowship certificate in Implant Dentistry in 1999 both from New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD). He later received his DMD and MPH from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) and Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) respectively in 2003.

Dr. Nui joined TUSDM as a faculty member in 1999. He is presently an Associate Professor, Division Head of Prosthodontics and maintains his private practice limited to Prosthodontics and implant dentistry. He has conducted many courses and directs implant dentistry in the predoctoral prosthodontic program. Dr. Nui holds a membership in the American Dental Association, American Dental Education Association, American College of Prosthodontists, International College of Prosthodontists, Academy of Osseointegration, and the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodonitcs. He has lectured locally, nationally and internationally as well as published several articles in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. Dr. Nui's current research interests are Implant Overdentures and independent implant overdenture attachments and prosthodontic dental education.

Iqbal Singh, DMD; FICD is Professor and Division Head of Simulated Patient Care in the Department of Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry.

Dr. Singh holds an undergraduate degree in Dentistry from Government Dental College in Amritsar, India and a Post Graduate degree in Operative Dentistry from Nair Dental College in Bombay, India. Prior to immigrating to the United States Dr. Singh taught in India for 10 years. He joined the faculty at Tufts in 1975 after completing a teacher training under the stewardship of Dr. Maury Massler.

Dr. Singh obtained his DMD from Tufts University in 1984 while continuing to teach in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and was promoted to rank of Division Head in 2001.

He has lectured in India and in Kuwait under the auspices of Forsyth Institute of Dental Research to train dentists to provide services to school children in the school health program. He has also served on the Admissions Committee and Equal Educational Opportunity Committee at Tufts and is the dental school's liaison officer for the annual Yankee Dental Conference courses held at Tufts.

He participates in the faculty practice at Tufts Dental Associates at the school. In addition to his duties as Division Head, he is pursuing his interest in research in management of patients with Gagging Reflex.

Hiroshi Hirayama, DDS is currently a Professor and Director of the Postgraduate Prosthodontics program at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is also Director of Advanced Education in Esthetic Dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He has a DDS degree from Japan. He received his certificate in Prosthodontics, Master's degree and DMD degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Prosthodontics, and a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontics. He is an editor of the ACP Board Study Guide on CD-ROM. He has published many articles in peer review journals and has also lectured nationally and abroad.

 

Peter Arsenault, DMD is a graduate of The University of Massachusetts where he received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in plastics engineering, 1986 and 1989 respectively along with a minor in chemistry. Dr. Arsenault worked in industry as an engineer before entering dental school. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1994.

Upon graduation, Dr. Arsenault completed a General Practice Residency at Tufts New England Medical Center and then went on to private practice . He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society and the Society of Plastics Engineers along with the Society of Materials Engineers.

Dr. Arsenault has shown great interest in product development and intellectual property law. He holds several United States Patents and patent pending products relating to the dental field.

Since 2005 Dr. Arsenault has taught at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and is currently the Division Head of Operative Dentistry in the Department of Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry.
