Orthodontics Faculty

Our orthodontic faculty consists of leading-edge practitioners who also conduct research to advance orthodontic practice and improve oral health.

Full-time Faculty:

Dr. Barry S. Briss is Professor and Chairman of Post-Doctoral Orthodontics. He has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 1970. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Massachusetts-Amherst and a D.M.D. and Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist and serves as Northeastern Director of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Dr. Lokesh Suri is an Associate Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 2003. He received a B.D.S. degree from Maulara Azad Medical College and a D.M.D. and Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. In addition, he received a Master of Science degree from Tufts.

Dr. Vicky Cartsos is an Assistant Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 2005. She received her D.M.D. degree from the University of Athens School of Dentistry, a Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, and a Master of Science degree from Tufts.

Part-time Faculty:

Dr. David Cabeceiras is an Associate Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 1991. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Providence College and a D.M.D. and Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist and maintains a private practice south of Boston.

Dr. Carl Carlamere is an Assistant Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 1983. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Villanova University, a D.D.S. from Georgetown University and a Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He maintains a practice north of Boston.

Dr. Peter Cressman is an Assistant Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 1985. He is on the cleft palate team at Tufts Medical Center and oversees the care of patients with craniofacial anomalies such as cleft palate. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Lafayette University, a D.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He maintains a private practice south of Boston.

Dr. Norman Diamond is an Associate Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 1966. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Brandeis University and a D.M.D. and Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist and is retired from the full-time practice of orthodontics.

Dr. Eugene Eagles is an Assistant Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 1979. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Tufts University, a D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, and a Certificate in Orthodontics from Boston University. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist who is retired from full-time practice.

Dr. Thomas Fischer is an Assistant Clinical Professor and joined our faculty in 2008. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Notre Dame, his D.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and his M.S. in Orthodontics from Marquette University. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist and maintains a private practice in Burlington, Vermont.

Dr. Bahram Ghassemi is an Associate Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 2002. He is the former Chairman of the Orthodontic Department in Teheran, Iran. He is a dual degree specialist having earned his Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Boston University and a Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist and maintains a private practice in the greater Boston area.

Dr. Lisa Giarrusso (on temporary leave) is an Associate Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 1991. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Tufts University and a D.M.D. and Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She is a Board Certified Orthodontist and maintains a private practice in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Dr. James Kane is an Associate Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 1982. He is a dual degree specialist and has earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) and a D.M.D., Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry, and Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He maintains a private practice west of Boston.

Dr. Harold Kaplan is an Associate Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 1971. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Columbia University and a D.M.D. and Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is the Chairman of the Admissions Committee for the Orthodontics Department and is a Board Certified Orthodontist. He maintains a private practice north of Boston.

Dr. Leon Klempner is a visiting lecturer and Clinical Instructor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 2003. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Adelphi University, a D.D.S. from the University of Maryland, and a Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist and maintains a private practice on Long Island, New York.

Dr. Marcel Korn is an Associate Clinical Professor and has been a member of the faculty since 1972. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) and a D.M.D. and Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist and maintains a private practice in Boston.

Dr. Tracey Maloney is an Associate Clinical Professor and has been on the orthodontic faculty since 1995. She is a member of the Dental School faculty and is a teacher of gross anatomy at the post-doctoral level. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Tufts University and a D.M.D., Certificate in Orthodontics, and Master of Science Degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She maintains a private practice south of Boston.

Dr. Matthew Miner is an Associate Clinical Professor and joined the faculty in 2009 to direct some of the research projects. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree at Colby College and his D.D.S. at New York University; he completed his orthodontic training at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist and maintains a practice in Dedham, Massachusetts.

Dr. Roland Nentwich is an Assistant Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 2002. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Holy Cross, a D.D.S. and Master of Science Degree from SUNY Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, and a Certificate in Orthodontics from the University of Rochester. He maintains a private practice west of Boston.

Dr. Carl Perlmutter is an Associate Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 1975. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Vermont and a D.M.D. and Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He maintains a private practice west of Boston.

Dr. Hugh Phillis is an Assistant Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 1980. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Pennsylvania State University and a D.M.D. and Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist and maintains a practice in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Dr. Paul Rigali is an Assistant Clinical Professor and joined our faculty in 2008. He earned his Bachelors Degree at Kenyon College, D.D.S. at Loyola University, and Orthodontic Certificate at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist and maintains a practice in Wallingford, Connecticut.

Dr. Charles Ruff is an Assistant Clinical Professor and joined the faculty in 2008. He earned his bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College and his D.M.D. and Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist and maintains a practice in Waterville, Maine.

Dr. Eric Serfaty is a Visiting Lecturer and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 2004. He earned a Certificate in Orthodontics and a Master of Science Degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He maintains a private practice in Paris, France.

Dr. Jerome Shuman is a Clinical Instructor and joined the faculty in 2007. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Harvard University, a D.M.D. from Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and a Master of Science Degree in Orthodontics from the University of Michigan. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist and maintains a private practice in Portland, Maine.

Dr. Leo Spyrou is an Assistant Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 2003. He is a dual specialist having earned both a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and a Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He maintains a private practice west of Boston.

Dr. Parul Taneja is a Clinical Instructor and joined the orthodontic faculty in 2003. She earned a B.D.S. Degree from Mangola University in India, a D.M.D. from Boston University, and a Masters in Orthodontics from the University of Oklahoma. She is in a private practice in the Boston area.

Dr. Robert Wilson is an Assistant Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty since 1978. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Yankton College, a D.D.S. from Case Western Reserve University, and a Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He maintains a private practice north of Boston.

Dr. Gui Zhang is an Assistant Clinical Professor and has been a member of the faculty since 2001. She earned a D.D.S. and a Master of Science Degree from West China University and a D.M.D. and a Certificate in Orthodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She maintains a private practice west of Boston.
