FacultyNoshir R. Mehta, DMD, MDS, MS, FICD, FACD, Dr. Noshir Mehta is Professor and Chairman of the Department of General Dentistry and Director of the Craniofacial Pain Center. His specialty is the diagnosis and management of temporomandibular disorders, orofacial pain and head and neck pain from a full body perspective and the interaction of the dental occlusion in musculoskeletal dysfunction. Dr. Mehta is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists. He received his DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and postgraduate training in Periodontology from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Richard Allen, D.M.D. Dr. Richard Allen is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the General Dentistry Department. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a DMD Degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. After serving for two years in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska, he practiced general dentistry for 25 years in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Dr. Allen accepted his appointment as a Tufts faculty member in September, 1993. Kathleen Coyne, D.M.D. Dr. Kathleen Coyne is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Practice Coordinator for Group 7. Dr. Coyne earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Tufts University, an M.A.T. degree from Bridgewater State College and her D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Prior to coming to Tufts, Dr. Coyne was in private practice for twenty years in Hinghan, Mass. Edward Fidrocki, D.D.S. Dr. Edward Fidrocki is an Assistant Clinical Professor and has been a Practice Coordinator for 4 years. He received his B.S. from University of Vermont and a D.D.S. from New York University College of Dentistry. He completed a General Practice Residency at Long Island Jewish medical Center. Dr. Fidrocki also is a general dentistry at the North End Community Health Center / Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was Dental Director for over 15 years. Harish Gulati, B.D.S. Dr. Harish Gulati is an Assistant Clinical Professor and a Practice Coordinator. He Received his BDS degree from Bombay , India. He received his Post Graduate Degree in Operative Dentistry and Aesthetic Dentistry from Boston University. Viviana Avila-Gnau, D.D.S. Dr Avila-Gnau is an Assistant Clinical Professor and a Practice Coordinator for Group 5. ?She received her D.D.S. from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in California, where she then worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry upon graduation, overseeing students in the International Dentist Program clinic as well as the main clinic. ?Prior to her time at Loma Linda, Dr. Avila-Gnau operated her own private practice in Bogot?, Colombia, where she had received her first D.D.S. from the Javeriana University School of Dentistry. ?Dr. Avila-Gnau is a member of the American Dental Association, the?American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Massachusetts Dental Society, in which she is also a Member of the Standing Committee on the New Dentist. Richard S. Harold, D.M.D., J.D.? Dr. Richard S. Harold is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Practice Coordinator.? Dr. Harold operated a general practice for many years in Malden before joining the Tufts faculty.? He received his B.S. degree from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and D.M.D. degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.? Dr. Harold received his J.D. degree from New England School of Law and has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar since 1996. He has lectured and published on various dental-legal risk management topics. Margaret J. Howard, D.M.D., M.Ed., M.P.H. Dr. Margaret J. Howard is an Associate Clinical Professor and has been a faculty member in the Department of General Dentistry for ten and a half years. She received a Bachelor of Health Science degree from Northeastern University, a Master of Education degree from Cambridge College, a D.M.D. degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, and a M.P.H. degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Howard is a Practice Coordinator of Group 6 in the pre-doctoral program. Mary Karish-Dodge, D.M.D.? is a Clinical Instructor and Practice Coordinator.? She earned her B.S. Degree from Boston College and her D.M.D. Degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.? Dr. Karish is an Officer for the Rhode Island Academy of General Dentistry.?? She continues to practice part-time with her husband, Dr. Jeffrey Dodge, the current President of Rhode Island Dental Association. David M. Leader, D.M.D. ? Dr. David Leader is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Practice Coordinator. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art History from Emory University in 1981. He received his D.M.D. Degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1985. He has taught in Radiology, Geriatrics, New Patient Encounter and Emergency Dentistry. Dr. Leader is the State Chair of Peer Review of the Massachusetts Dental Society and serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the New England Chapter of the National Scleroderma Foundation. Dr. Leader is the author of about 60 dental and health articles published in the Malden Observer, websites, and other newspapers. Additionally Dr. Leader writes for the Journal of the Massachusetts Dental Society. Dr. Leader lectures on Scleroderma and Dentistry and on Peer Review. Dr. Leader practices in Malden, Massachusetts. Daniel W. Lee, D.M.D. Dr. Lee is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University. He received a Master's Degree in Biophysics from Boston University School of Medicine and his D.M.D. degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Lee has been on faculty at Tufts since 1984. Dr. Lee, for the past several years, has volunteered his time on numerous visits to the Republic of Moldova where he treats children at orphanages. Dr. Lee is in private practice in Lexington, Mass. Frank Odlum, D.D.S., Dr. Frank Odlum is an Assistant Professor and was appointed Director of the Emergency Clinic in 1999. He received his Bachelor of Science-Biology/Pre-Med degree from Boston College in 1956. He received the Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from New York University College of Dentistry in 1960. He served two years in the United States Army Dental Corp, where he served in the 75th station hospital in Augsburg, German. He was in private practice for thirty four years before retiring. He accepted an appointment to the faculty of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1998. David Paul, D.M.D., Dr. David Paul, Associate Professor, has been a faculty member at Tufts since 1990, first in the Dept. of Operative and Prosthodontics, then as a Practice Coordinator in the Department of General Dentistry. He received his D.M.D. from Tufts in 1989, completed a General Practice Residency at Boston City Hospital, and then maintained a private practice in Concord Massachusetts. Dr. Paul is extremely active in International Public Heath, having lectured both nationally and internationally. He has led almost twenty Medical/Dental teams into some of the poorest, and most under served countries, such as Haiti, Honduras, Zambia, and Botswana. Since 2005, he has directed the dental school's component of the Tufts University Community Service Learning Experience in Nicaragua. This month-long combined Medical, Dental, and Engineering school project provides care in the poorest and most isolated part of Central America. Dr. Paul also serves on the Board of Directors for Help Mercy International, a non-profit that helps to administer and fund a hospital, HIV clinics, and nutrition programs in Africa. Kathryn Ragalis, D.M.D., M.S., Dr. Kathryn Ragalis is an Associate Professor, a Practice Coordinator and Course Director for the Dental Management of the Medically Compromised Patient for the Medicine III Course. She is a graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Post-graduate education includes a Fellowship in Rehabilitation Dentistry at the University of Washington and a Master of Science Degree in Dental Public Health from Boston University. Dr. Ragalis also practices general dentistry part-time in private practice. She is also contributing seven chapters for the textbook Clinical Practice of the Dental Hygienist. Aruna Ramesh, D.M.D., Dr. Aruna Ramesh is an Assisatnt Professor and the Head of Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. She has been with Tufts for 6 years. She has a Masters in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and She is board certified by American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. Kevin Ryan, D.M.D., Dr. Kevin L. Ryan is an Assistant Professor of General Dentistry and a Practice Coordinator. He matriculated at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA and achieved a Batchelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1969. His DMD degree was gained at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1974. While at Tufts Dental School, he served in a two year oral surgery and prosthodontic externship at the Old Soldiers? Home in Chelsea, MA. He maintained a private practice of general dentistry in Hanover, MA for twenty-seven years before coming back to Tufts. While in private practice, Dr. Ryan was a member of the medical-dental staff of The Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, MA and a consultant at the Cardinal Cushing School and Training Center in Hanover, MA. He accepted an appointment as Practice Coordinator at Tufts in September, 2001. Sam Shames, D.M.D., M.A.G.D.?is the Director of Practice Management after serving for over ten years as Assistant Clinical Professor for the Restorative Department. He received his D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, and his M.A.G.D. from the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Shames practiced for twenty years on Newbury St. in Boston; and has developed and opened over twenty group practices in Massachusetts under the name, Gentle Dental. He is the managing partner of the Gentle Dental Partners, which consists of a network of over 100 dentists practicing in Massachusetts. This has given Dr. Shames extensive experience in dental leasehold improvements, lease negotiation, partnership agreements, practice purchases, and associate relationships. In his career, he has lectured nationally on practice management, emphasizing an equity sharing multispecialty group practice model. Dr. Shames is a corporate member of Delta Dental and serves on their professional advisory committee. Paul C. Stark, ScD, Dr. Paul Stark, Assistant Professor, is a biostatistician in the Department of General Dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He is the Director of Research Design and Statistics and Associate Director of Bioinformatics. He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his doctoral degree from Harvard University. He has been doing medical research in the Boston area since 1996. Dr. Stark is the instructor for several biostatistics courses on campus. He also serves on the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Tufts-NEMC General Clinical Research Center. His publications have included research conducted in the area of indoor bioaerosols; polycystic kidney disease, recurrent cardiovascular disease, glaucoma; Merkel Cell carcinoma; brachytherapy for early prostate cancer patients; anticoagulation in cancer patients with thromboembolic disease; chemotherapeutic response and survival in anaplastic oligodendrogliomas patients; survival in patients with gastrointestinal tract carcinoid tumors; and predictors of skeletal complications in metastatic breast cancer. Michael Thompson, Ph.D. Dr. Michael Thompson is an Associate Professor with a secondary appointment in the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics in Tufts Medical School. He received his B.S from Stetson University and his M.S. and Ph.D from Emory University. He conducted postdoctoral work at the University of Edinburgh in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, as well as in the Department of Pharmacology at Tufts Medical School. He is the author of over 30 publications in the area of drugs of abuse, pain control and stress. He has been a member of the Dept. of General Dentistry since 1997. He is the Course Director for the undergraduate and postgraduate Dental Pharmacology. He serves on numerous committees in the school and chairs the Student Promotions Committee. He is the Director of the Student Teaching Assistant Program. Paul L. Trombly, D.M.D., Dr Paul Trombly is an Associate Clinical Professor and has been a Practice Coordinator for 8 years. He received a BS in psychology from Syracuse University, an MA in physiology from Ball State University and his DMD from here at Tufts. His post graduate education included a 1 year GPR at Coler Memorial Hospital in New York City. He received a Certificates from the New York University School of Dentistry in the "Clinical Diagnosis and Management of TMD" and "Advanced Program in Orofacial Pain Management". He is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management. He maintains Private Practices in Somerset, Massachusetts and on Block Island, Rhode Island. Karen Wallach, D.M.D., Dr. Karen Wallach is an Assistant Clinical Professor and a Practice Coordinator. Dr. Wallach has been a member of the dental faculty since 1985. Dr. Wallach earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Barnard College, New York, a Masters Degree from Columbia University and earned her DMD Degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Wallach is the Faculty Advisor for the Smile Squad, a student outreach group that teaches about dental health in community outreach locations. Prior to becoming a Practice Coordinator in 2003, Dr. Wallach was a general dentist at the North End Community Health Center for 16 years. Arthur Weiner, DMD., Dr. Arthur A. Weiner is a Professor of General Dentistry and Director of Behavioral Sciences I and II. He has been a member of the dental faculty for 22 years. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Boston College and his DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Weiner also serves as a Group Practice Coordinator in the Undergraduate General Dental Clinic. Eric Weinstock, D.M.D., Dr. Eric Weinstock is an Assistant Clinical Professor. He is an Endodontist with a solo-practice in Canton, Massachusetts. He is an adjunct faculty member at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM), serving as course director for the Ethics and Professionalism in Dentistry class. Dr. Weinstock's scholarly work focuses on the intersection of dental practice, ethics, and the law. He has lectured at several local and national meetings on topics such as "Informed Consent in the Dental Setting", "Dental Malpractice", and "Risk Management and the Defense of Endodontic Cases". He has published articles in EDIC Clinical Dental Advisor, Compendium, and DePaul Journal of Health Care Law. Dr. Weinstock is actively involved in several professional organizations including the American Dental Association, the American Association of Endodontists, the Massachusetts Dental Society, the South Shore District Dental Society, the Norfolk Parkway Study Club, and the American College of Legal Medicine. Dr. Weinstock volunteers his services for the Elder Dental Program of the Neponset Valley Community Health Coalition and provides dental assistance for survivors of the Holocaust. Dr. Weinstock currently serves as both the Vice-Chair of the South Shore District Dental Society and as a member of their Peer Review Committee. He is a member of the Presiding Chairs Committee of the Yankee Dental Congress and of the Central Professional Committee of Delta Dental of Massachusetts. He is an active member of the TUSDM Ethics Committee. Dr. Weinstock received his B.A. in Psychology from Brandeis University, his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, and his D.M.D. and a certificate in Endodontics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Paul Vankevich, D.M.D, Dr. Paul Vankevich is an Assistant Clinical Professor. He graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in June 1981 and was commissioned as dental officer in the U.S. Navy. In December 2001, he retired from the U.S. Navy Dental Corps with the rank of Commander, after 20 years of military service and began teaching at Tufts. He is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine. ? |
