The ninth annual Family Welcome Day was held on August 31st at the Shubert Theater in downtown Boston. Tufts President Lawrence S. Bacow brought greetings from the university to the entering students and their families. Dean Lonnie Norris provided a formal welcome; Dr. Nancy Arbree gave an overview of the academic program; Eileen Doherty gave an introduction of student research opportunities; Dr. James Hanley provided an introduction to the clinical experience; Dr. Wanda Wright talked about community and public health initiatives; and Dr. Mostafa El-Sherif brought greetings from the Alumni Office. After the morning assembly, guests enjoyed lunch at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel on Tremont Street.
At the conclusion of lunch, the new students were brought to Merritt Auditorium at the Dental School to register for classes and attend orientation sessions. Their parents and family members enjoyed campus tours and participated in a panel discussion which featured parents and spouses of currently enrolled students, as well as two 2010 alumna and three course directors. The day concluded with a welcome reception in the Alumni Lounge located on the 15th floor of the Dental School.
Close to 500 people attended the event, including new students, family members, administrative staff, dignitaries and orientation volunteers from the class of 2013.

Dr. Nancy Arbree gave an overview of the academic program; Dr. Gerard Kugel gave an introduction of student research opportunities; Dr. James Hanley provided an introduction to the clinical experience; Dr. Catherine Hayes talked about community and public health initiatives; and Dr. Vangel Zissi brought greetings from the Alumni Office. After the morning assembly, guests enjoyed lunch at the Courtyard by Marriott on Tremont Street.
At the conclusion of lunch, the new students were brought to the Posner Auditorium to register for classes and attend orientation sessions, while their parents and family members enjoyed campus tours and participated in a parent-to-parent panel discussion, which featured parents and a spouse of currently enrolled students as well as a 2009 alum, four course directors and Dean Lonnie H. Norris. The day concluded with a reception in the new park on the health sciences campus.
