Posner Hall DormitoryThe Posner Hall Dormitory is located at 200 Harrison Avenue, adjacent to the Tufts Medical Center. As the sole residence hall for the Tufts Health Sciences Campus, the dorm houses students from the dental, medical, and Sackler Schools. The residence hall has 97 rooms in total with 58 of them on the 3rd and 4th floors assigned to the dental school. The dormitory, in addition to providing a convenient place to live, fosters an environment that promotes academic growth and personal development. Accordingly, students are expected to behave with mutual respect, courtesy and cooperation. Although the university does not dictate lifestyle or morality, and encourages reasonable informality and spontaneity, Posner Hall is intended to be a place for quiet residence. There are four Resident Assistants in the dormitory; two medical school RAs and two Dental school RAs. While they are full-time students, the RAs are also considered employees of the Offices of Student Affairs for the Medical and Dental schools. They are present to help the student become acclimated to professional school and to enforce dormitory policies. The University shall not be liable for any loss and/or damage to personal property in dormitories due to fire, theft, or any other cause of damage. Students are encouraged to review their own or their family's personal property insurance to determine their present insurance coverage. Pending approval by the Board of Trustees in May 2012, rent fees will be $924 per month for the 2012-2013 academic year. Rent will be payable in two installments or as required by the Bursar Office. The lease for first year students is ten months and extends from late August through late June. A housing contract will be mailed to the incoming class in April after enrollment has been finalized. Upon receiving the housing contract, interested students must review and sign the contract. The contract should be mailed back to the school with a $415.00 deposit (certified bank check or money order) in a timely manner. Rooms and positions on the waiting list are assigned by lottery. This year's lottery will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. The deadline to submit the dorm contract and advance deposit is Monday, April 30, 2012. Notification of position in the dorm or on the wait list will then be sent via email. Rooms: All of the dorm rooms are single rooms that measure 11 x 13.5 feet and include one window and two closets. Each room is furnished with a permanent window unit air conditioner, a twin bed, dresser, desk, chair, and bookshelf. Rooms are also equipped with telephone and TV jacks which can be activated by the residents upon calling the appropriate service companies. All rooms are equipped with DSL network access, however, wireless routers are not allowed in the dorm. Bathrooms: There are separate bathrooms on each floor for men and women. Each bathroom has two shower stalls, two toilet stalls, and two sinks. Cubbies are available for storage of the residents' belongings. Kitchens: Each floor has a fully-equipped kitchen with one refrigerator, a large freezer, two stoves, two sinks, two microwaves, a dishwasher, a toaster oven, and a water filter. Residents are expected to bring their own dishes and cooking supplies. Cabinet and freezer space is available, but somewhat limited as these areas are shared by all of the students on the floor. Many residents opt to purchase small refrigerators and create extra cabinet/storage space in their own rooms. Note: there is no cafeteria or meal plan option for dorm residents. Laundry Room: The laundry room, located in the basement, is equipped with 4 washers and 4 dryers. The cost is $1.00 per load for the washer and the dryer. Students must bring their own laundry basket, iron and ironing board. Exercise/Weight Room: The exercise room, also located in the basement, contains universal machines, a flat bench, curl bench, and free weights. The University has also purchased several new cardiovascular machines including treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes, and a stair-master. Student Lounge: The Student Lounge is located on the second floor and is open for all residents and occasionally reserved for campus community functions. The lounge has couches, chairs, a TV, a pool and ping-pong table, piano, and soda/snack vending machines. A small study area is located on one side of the lounge. Outdoor Courtyard: The outdoor courtyard, recently renovated and landscaped, is frequently utilized by Posner Dorm residents in the warmer months. There are two gas grills available for use in the courtyard. This space is also available for general campus use and is not limited solely to the residents of the dorm. Other Areas: Posner Hall also houses a large lecture hall, a number of administrative offices, and a communal lounge located on the second floor. These spaces are generally accessible to the greater campus community between 9:00am and 5:00pm on weekdays. In the evenings and on weekends and holidays, the exterior doors of the dorm are locked. Residents of Posner Hall have twenty-four hour access to the exterior doors of the building via their student ID cards, which are programmed by Campus Police.
